Salvadoran/Canadian singer-songwriter Lil América unveils new single, “Express Entry”
Bridging the gap between Latino rhythms and contemporary jazz-pop, the Salvadoran/Canadian singer-songwriter Lil América has released “Express Entry,” a catchy number about family, the immigrant experience, resilience, and motherhood.
Backed by an uplifting reggae jazz instrumentation and Latin drum groove, Lil América sings the story of her arrival in Canada from El Salvador.
She admits she was a bit terrified of uprooting her whole life and moving from her home country, packing everything in her luggage, and coming to a foreign land, but soon finds the beauty in the different landscapes and people.
“Express Entry” is an empowering immigrant story, highlighting how far you can go if you persevere and follow your dreams. And the chorus, a vocal loop of the words “Havana, Hamilton, San Salvador,” will surely get you moving, dancing, and chanting with glorious rhythms.
Following up on the “Express Entry” single, Lil América is dropping her debut album, Courage Music Healing, later this year. The album is a personal mix and reflection of the past and looks forward to the future, touching on how important music is to Lil América’s life.
“The album was made during a time that I was off due to stress and the pandemic,” she says. “I passed through a very bad depression, and the songs helped me heal.”
Review
Beginning with a solid drum beat, “Express Entry” possesses a Latin vibe, and Lil América’s vocals match the music perfectly.
The beat throughout the track keeps the listener intrigued, and I personally can’t get enough of Lil América’s upbeat reggae-style vocals.
My body didn’t stop moving through the whole track. Whether it was my feet tapping, my body swaying in my seat, or my head bopping, Lil América has a way of bringing in a “get up and dance” feeling through her music.
So I leave you with this, try not to groove to this beat…I doubt you will be able to accomplish it!
