Jai Bentley shares his new single, “Be Somebody”
21-year-old Kitchener, ON-based artist Jai Bentley recently released his single, “Be Somebody.”
Jai had always had an ear for music and knew what sounded good. In 2019, “Fiction,” Jai’s first single, was released. It was known for its catchiness, which was the start of his music career. Jai’s music tends to reach out to the listener and relate to them on a personal level, mainly because of the lyrics he writes.
Currently, Jai is an independent artist and will continue to build up a fan base by himself.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi everyone! My name is Jai Bentley. I am a 21-year-old music artist from Kitchener, ON.
In the last three years, I have been making a variety of genres of music such as Rap, Hip-Hop, Alternative, Indie, Pop, and much more. I am always pushing myself out of my comfort zone to become better every day!
Social media, such as TikTok, has been one of my biggest platforms and brought me most of my fans (who mean the world to me). On TikTok, I try to go live three times a week to connect with my fans and followers to build stronger relationships. In a way, I’m never satisfied with the results I receive, such as music streams. Because of this, I am always motivating myself to do better and go further. My dedication and love for music is very powerful, and I do not plan on stopping until I get to where I wanna be.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
On July 22nd, I dropped my most recent single, “Be Somebody.” In the song, I talk about wanting to be somebody rather than a nobody. The problem is that I don’t think I’m good enough for someone I want to be with. I want to be somebody for that person but can’t get to that point because of past issues and mental illness.
“Be Somebody” is a very relatable song in a way that everyone just wants to be somebody. You want to be good enough for that person, achieve the goals you set for yourself, and be rich and famous. The list goes on and on. “Be Somebody” is a pop punk/rock/alternative song that can get you screaming the lyrics without even realizing it.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
When it comes to inspiration, I typically write about past experiences that I have been through. A lot of these experiences tend to be about heartbreak or love. In fact, it’s hard for me to write about other things because I like telling stories through my music without having to lie. On the other hand, artists who have inspired me would be Juicewrld, Iann Dior, Lil Peep, The Killers, 21 Pilots, Cage The Elephant, and more.
Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?
Unfortunately, at this time, I do not have any upcoming shows or festivals. But, in the future, that would be a dream of mine.
What’s your goal for 2022?
My goal for 2022 and typically every year is just to do better than the last. Last year I pulled in about 500,000 plays on Spotify. This year I told myself I gotta hit 1,000,000! Another important goal is to keep building as many relationships as possible. I also want to push myself to do better and make my dreams come true.
