Canadian country artist Adam Cousins has recently unveiled his new single “Our Lives”, along with a video to accompany the release.
Written by Cousins and fellow artist, Owen Riegling, “Our Lives” was produced by CMAO-nominated producer Shawn Moore. “Our Lives” draws on a few of Cousins’ own influences like Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, and Alan Jackson, and deliberately strays away from the mainstream pop-country sound. Instead, the song is punctuated by full, raspy vocals, big guitars, and strong drums and bass, and tied together by rich country storytelling with a modern rock edge.
Cousins says,
“This is the story of first love through the eyes of a young country boy who knows how to properly treat his woman, even though he isn’t even old enough to own his own vehicle. I want listeners to be able to close their eyes and feel themselves driving down a dirt road in their formative years, falling in love for the first time, and imagining the great moments that lie ahead.”
“Our Lives” is the first of three new singles planned for the year from the emerging artist and captures the authentic sonic brand that he’s been carefully crafting.
Cousins says,
“The sound we’ve crafted for this song is a goal that I have been working towards for years. I want to combine timeless storytelling with a production quality that’s feels dynamic and original – for listeners, it’s something that feels familiar but presented in a way that’s creative. For my next two tracks, I want to maintain that fresh sensibility that we’ve brought to ‘Our Lives’, while also staying true to the sound and storytelling that I love about classic country music.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi Everyone! My name is Adam Cousins. I am 26 years old from a small town of Brussels, Ontario. I am an electrical engineer technician currently but trying to pursue music as a full time career.
When I’m not playing music, you can find me golfing, playing hockey, or snowboarding. I will take any opportunity to travel and explore the world – but there is nothing like a good sunset across Lake Huron with a whiskey in hand on a long weekend at the cottage with my family.
You have recently unveiled your new single, “Our Lives”, what can you tell us about the writing process behind the single?
Writing a song comes down to whoever is in the room. My friend Owen Riegling and I have had great chemistry from the start. Owen came to me with a small demo he put together and I fell in love with it instantly. It was only 45 minutes before we had a full song put together. The rest came inside the studio while trying to figure out the direction of what sound we wanted – and I couldn’t be happier with the decision we made to go with the low, raspy, old school vibe.
The single was co-written with Owen Riegling, and produced by CMAO-nominated producer, Shawn Moore, what can you tell us about this experience?
Both gentlemen are incredible. Owen has a great vibe and understanding of music production and lyrics. He produces all his own music and has a similar direction as myself. We have written a few times together and always seem to come out with something great.
Shawn is amazing. We have worked together for the past 2 years now and Shawn has helped me establish my sound as an artist. Working closely together to form a great work and real friendship. With the release of my first two singles with Shawn, things have come a long way. When Shawn and I decided to record at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton, I knew it was taking the next step with my sound, especially with live band off the floor recording with the talented studio musicians. I can’t wait to show you what else we have in store.
You have a music video out for the single as well, what was the highlight of the video shoot?
The highlight was all of the great people I have had the opportunity to work with through it all. Derek Lamoureux, Phong Tran, and Kristof Pozo all came together to bring my vision to life. The dream cabin location, mixed with the breathtaking weather created a glorious piece of art.
This is the first release of three new singles planned for this year, what can we expect from the next two?
“Let It Rip” is going to be the high-energy song of the summer, which we will be promoting and releasing to radio all across Canada. “Let It Rip” Is scheduled to be released in early August followed by “In The End”, a very powerful heartbreak song, that will be released everywhere digitally in the fall of 2022.
All three singles feature such different energies and stories individually, but I am excited for listeners to be able to hear the way they come together to complement one another as a full project. This journey, and everyone involved, has allowed me to capture a sound and feeling in my music that I am truly proud of and anxiously waiting to share with audiences through radio, digital streaming, and upcoming live shows!
