Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Taanishi my name is Brandi Vezina, I’m a Metis Country/Americana singer-songwriter from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I write what I know. I have recently embraced co-writing, and I’m hooked. I like coming into a session with an idea, and I love the creativity that flows through other artists and myself. I like to write with people I feel comfortable with to share what I’m thinking and feeling. The lyrics to my single, “Danger” first came to me in a dream. I like to pray and let ideas channel through me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to express myself through songwriting, you can tell a lot about my life experiences based on my lyrics.

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

Definitely, I released 3 singles, took part in Canada’s Music Incubator’s AE West and many music conferences. I took time to go inward, grow and learn about the music industry. I’ve developed some beautiful relationships with other artists and producer, Terence Lam over Zoom. My latest single, “Alberta Rose” was written over Zoom with Liz Christensen, Sarah Elliot and myself.

I am currently in the Jim Beam Virtual Talent Search. My band and I performed at the No Fun Club here in Winnipeg under strict CO-VID protocols. It was challenging to rehearse; however, we made it work. Thankfully, I’ve been able to work with my producer, videographer, photographer, and band throughout the Pandemic.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would say, “Walk Away.”

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?

Sebastian Gaskin is my favourite Canadian artist right now. I’ll always be a Blue Rodeo, Drake, Shania, Neil Young, Tragically Hip, the Guess Who, and Chilliwack fan.
