Who: Alt-J, Portugal. The Man
When: April 15th, 2022
Where: Place Bell, Laval QC

Indie rock fans braved the wind storm to gather at Laval’s Place Bell for a double bill of two of the genre’s biggest artists: Alt-J and Portugal. The Man.

Following an opening set by Sherry Glazer, Alaskan band Portugal. The Man emerged on stage, only after taking a moment to acknowledge that we live on stolen land, and offering the stage to a local indigenous representative for a beautiful speech. Then came the rock. Under a show of heavy lights and smoke, the band provided more than an hour of over-the-top energy, including their biggest hit “Feel it Still”, and some Nirvana and Pink Floyd covers.

Around 9.20pm, British trio Alt-J rose on stage on a elaborated platform, separating each band member in a cube. This setup allowed for projections behind and in front of the band, which was put to great use with candles for opening song “Bane”, and a lot of beautiful water-related effects during “In Cold Blood”, “Dissolve Me” and “Something Good”. The band closed the show with their iconic song “Breezeblocks”, to the joy of an audience who truly experienced an indie rock night to remember!
