Pop artist, Brandon Hutcheson has released an emotional single, “Don’t Say”, which has been called a testament to heartbreak caused by past relationships.
“‘Don’t Say’ is a song written about a past relationship I was in that was really toxic,” explains Hutcheson. His smooth and polished voice complements the poignant distress of the lyrics. Although it can be hard to walk away from something you love, Hutcheson walks through the fire of gloom for better days. “I learned through this experience to walk away from something that is doing more harm than good.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Brandon, I’m a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Toronto, Canada. I’ve had a passion for music for as long as I can remember, and would love to share it with the world.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I would consider my music mostly Top-40 pop, with hints of R&B in my voice. I definitely love a good beat that people can dance to, but also lyrics that they can relate to. I like to write based on personal experience, especially when it comes to past relationships. I believe a lot of people can relate to many aspects of experiences I’ve been through in a relationship.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
With all the events going on in the world right now, I don’t have any plans to perform in the near future. In the past, I loved to keep my performances to just myself, a guitar, and a piano. I love the aspect of a raw artist and like to keep it that way for the most part. A goal for me in future performances would be to add more upbeat tracks and dancing into my performances to get the audience more hyped up.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I just released my first single “Don’t Say” on all major platforms on July 10th, which I’m super excited for your readers to hear. “Don’t Say” was written about a past relationship I was in that turned toxic really fast. There’s a point in a relationship where you just have to say enough is enough, and that is the point I was at when I wrote it. Listening back to the song now, it shows me how far I’ve come as a person, especially when it comes to relationships. It’s a song that people can dance to and hopefully relate to as well.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?
One of my favourite Canadian artists is Shawn Mendes. He was a pretty big inspiration for the type of music I write and the type of shows I want to put together in the future. I saw him perform on his first world tour and his talent is so effortless.
