Northern California-based Canadian/American artist, Desanka has unveiled her brand new single, “Oh”. We caught up with her for our newest segment of Five Questions With, so be sure to check out the single below and find out more about Desanka while you’re at it!
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Desanka, and I am an actress and recording artist from Los Angeles, CA. I have Canadian-Dual Citizenship, as my family is from the Toronto area.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I would describe my music as feel-good pop. I hope that people are able to interact with their emotions when they listen to my music. A lot of the themes that I play with include empowerment, happiness, and confidence.
My writing style is interesting because either a specific tune or lyrics will just randomly pop into my head at any moment. To make sure I capture it and not forget it, I record it in my voice memos immediately, otherwise, it will completely escape my mind. I am a very visual person, so from there, I just write everything down as a skeletal song layout, then essentially fill in the blanks when it comes to me. Singing or listening to it over and over again helps that process a lot as well.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I have yet to play a show, and I am not sure it is in the cards for me at this time. With the Digital Age in full force, I am able to connect with my audience through social media, allowing for relationships to become established in that way. However, if the right show with the right musician comes to fruition, then there may be a performance possibility. But for now, performing live is not a priority.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I would probably suggest for someone to listen to “Oh”, because it represents who I am as an artist today.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?
I would have to say that my favorite Canadian artist has been and will always be Avril Lavigne. “Sk8er Boi” was 100% my middle school anthem.
