Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Spade and I’m from Toronto, Canada. I am so ready to take on the music world. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. I started to create and write music in my adolescent years. I’ve recently spent time in Los Angeles writing and recording with many multi-platinum writers and producers who I absolutely adore. I like to tell stories with my music and I really want to speak to you emotionally and artistically. I love exploring and giving variety to my listeners. Writing this EP has been so fulfilling and it turned out to be everything I wanted it to be and more. I am so excited for you all to hear it.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I’ve always connected with my artistic self and I really enjoy writing music that’s both personable, relatable, and creative. My music and writing style dives deep into one’s journey. It’s vulnerable and bold with colour. My EP in particular really explores the journey of love and loss. I like playing with themes of light and darkness and how to navigate through that as a human being with emotions.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I have an amazing show coming up on December 13th, 7:00 pm at Buddies in Bad Times in Toronto. It’s called “Creativity in Motion” and it features a bunch of upcoming artists and performers who have graduated from Sheridan College’s music program. I will be performing my latest single “Hardest Thing” for the first time live with a band, so it’s super exciting. You can get tickets at the door or head over to www.buddiesinbadtimes.com to purchase them ahead of time. This performance is going to be super artistic and cool. I have backup dancers and singers joining the stage with me and we are going to bring some cool images and themes of light and darkness throughout the performance. You definitely are going to be intrigued, and I love connecting with my audience and making you feel like you’re on stage with me.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
That’s definitely a tough one because all of them are so different and unique in their own way and I love them all equally. But, if I had to choose one, I think it would be the single I just released entitled “Hardest Thing”. I think it’s a great upbeat introduction to who I am as an artist and I guarantee it’ll be stuck in your head for a few days!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I am ALL about supporting Canadian artists. I have to give a shout out to my girl Alessia Cara. She has seriously been killing the game and a fun fact: I got to backup sing for her at the MMVA awards in 2016 and I can seriously attest that she is super talented and down to Earth. Shawn Mendes, Jessie Reyez, and Stacey Kay are also some of my favs!
