Saskatoon and Regina based future-hip-hop/ R&B duo, Samurai Champs consists of rapper Jeah and singer Merv xx Gotti. The two draw influence from their Southeast Asian heritage, while taking pride in urban-Canadian identity.
They have unveiled their brand new single, “Summer’s Over”.
“For the track Summers Over, we really wanted to capture the idea that good things come to an end. That’s just the reality of it. Just like how the seasons come and go. Embrace change and learn from your experiences. That allows us to be human and as humans we can be hopeful. So if it’s for love, it’s always worth fighting for.”

We’re Samurai Champs from Canada – Jeah and Merv xx Gotti.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
We write a lot about our personal experiences through relationships, music, and with our collective, Trifecta Sound Co. We draw musical influences from the sounds of Toronto, as well as LA’s Soulection label.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
We’re currently in writing mode since we just got home from our first Asia tour in Singapore surrounding Music Matters Live festival. If you’ve seen us live, we’re essentially a stuntman boyband duo backed by a hardcore band.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Our latest single, Summer’s Over, is our most emotional song to date. You can listen to it wherever you can find music if you’re in the mood for some #mood.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
We’re currently finding a lot of inspiration in other Southeast Asian artists around Canada, both musically as well as culturally in terms of what they represent for marginalized artists in Canada. Our current favourites are Anders and Killy from Toronto, as well as Manila Grey from Vancouver.
