Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are Pretty Archie! The group consists of Cape Bretoners: Brian Cathcart Colin Gillis Redmond Macdougall Matthew McNeil and Scott Maclean. We have been touring for the last 6 years across Canada and have recently made a couple trips across the pond to play in Europe and the UK. We have been calling our sound Sea-billy Rock because of its Bluegrass roots mixed with some Country and some east coast styling.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

Our music is easy listening but puts you in a good mood, its upbeat and the songs usually tell a story. We typically collaborate on the songwriting …mostly about life experiences that we have been through or that we have witnessed. We have been lucky enough to reach audiences young and old and we are happy with the feedback from our albums and we love seeing people have a good time or get up and dance at our live performances.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

We are Excited to be playing all over Canada throughout the summer. We will be at The ECMAS In P.E. I, we will be part of the Calgary Stampede in Alberta as well in July and we have some concerts lined up around Alberta and Saskatchewan later in the fall, with Lots of maritime dates in between as well. For info about our shows, you can check our website www.prettyarchie.com for all the details.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

If we could pick one song it would probably be Stay The Same from our latest record. It’s about falling out of touch with a friend or loved one only to find that when you are reunited its as if no time has passed and you can pick up right where you left off.  I think that’s a universal sentiment we all have people in our life we don’t get to see as often as we like so the message along with some fun guitar hooks and harmonies makes this a song we are truly proud of! You can stream that song and all our records from Apple Music and Spotify.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

We Love Canadian Music, we are Huge fans of Stompin’ Tom, Stan Rogers  BNL and the Tragically Hip … some classics. But we also love New music coming out by Matt Andersen, COIG,  and Feist. We’ve even been known to throw on some Beiber or Drake Really depends on what we are in the mood for. We have huge respect for Canadian artists who have helped pave the way for bands like us to be able to break genres and stereotypes and play whatever music makes you happy!
