13 Shows Across Canada and the U.S. Honour Gord Downie’s Legacy While Raising Funds for Cancer Charities
Canada said goodbye to Gord Downie. Nine years later, fans will gather to sing his songs, celebrate his legacy, and raise money to support people affected by cancer.
GEDfest 2026 brings together Tragically Hip tribute bands, volunteers, and music fans for 13 shows across 12 cities in Canada and the United States from October 16–24, 2026. The annual grassroots fundraiser honours the life and music of Gord Downie while supporting local cancer charities.
Named for Gordon Edgar Downie, GEDfest has already raised $732,000 for local cancer organizations, with an ambitious goal of raising another $425,000 in 2026, potentially pushing its cumulative fundraising total beyond $1 million.
Every one of GEDfest’s 12 chapters is operated entirely by volunteers.

What Is GEDfest? Honouring Gord Downie’s Legacy Through Music
“GEDfest is a grassroots musical fundraiser inspired by Gord Downie, the music of The Tragically Hip, and the songs that brought Canadians together,” the organizers explain.
“It started as one Calgary gathering in 2018 and has grown into 13 events in 12 cities across Canada and the United States. Fans come to sing along, remember Gord and raise money for cancer organizations in their own communities.”
The movement began with one fan and one idea.
Founder Keith Dyck launched GEDfest in Calgary in 2018, inspired by another Canadian hero, Terry Fox. Just as Fox demonstrated the power of communities coming together through the Marathon of Hope, Dyck envisioned an annual gathering that would honour Gord Downie through music while helping those affected by cancer.
What began as a single event has grown into a movement connecting music fans, tribute performers, and volunteers across North America.
GEDfest’s vision is “to realize a world without cancer through an annual, coast-to-coast community driven movement honoring the life and legacy of Gordon Edgar Downie and the music of The Tragically Hip while raising funds for local cancer charities and creating UNFORGETTABLE moments to those who need it most.”
