India’s SHIVERWOOD SHADE Explores the Depths of Anger and Isolation in “Divided By Hate” From Debut Album, Escaping Darkness

Indian alternative/groove metal outfit Shiverwood Shade have released the visualizer for “Divided By Hate”, one of the most explosive and emotionally charged tracks from their debut album, Escaping Darkness.

“Divided By Hate” stands as the album’s most aggressive moment, an eruption of nu‑metal riffs, industrial tension, and raw emotional catharsis. The track dives deep into the destructive nature of internal and external anger, mirroring the album’s overarching journey from turmoil to resilience.

Originally formed in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, Shiverwood Shade first made waves by winning major Indian college festivals including Spring Fest at IIT Kharagpur, IIIT Gwalior, and ITM. After years of evolution, the band underwent a dramatic rebirth, relocating 1,500 kilometres east to Kolkata in 2022 and rebuilding their lineup from the ground up.

This transformation mirrors the emotional narrative of Escaping Darkness, leaving behind old worlds, confronting inner turmoil, and forging a new identity with cinematic intensity.

Shiverwood Shade’s sonic identity blends nu‑metal, post‑hardcore, industrial electronics, and dark cinematic atmospheres into a hybrid they describe as Cinematic Metal. Their sound is, in their own words, a heavy electronic collision designed to feel like a movie soundtrack for your darkest thoughts.

Each track on Escaping Darkness is built with sweeping orchestral pads, tense synthwave textures, EDM‑style drops, and down‑tuned guitars, creating a soundscape that is both crushing and emotionally immersive. The album is a ten‑track emotional journey through inner conflict, healing, resilience, and personal growth. It blends crushing riffs, cinematic layers, haunting electronics, and soaring melodies, balancing heaviness with vulnerability.

The band explains:

“We wanted to create an album that listeners could experience from beginning to end, a journey through darkness, doubt, resilience, and ultimately hope.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are Shiverwood Shade, an alternative metal and nu-metal band originally formed in 2013. Our roots began in Gwalior, but after rebuilding the band with a brand-new lineup, we are now proudly based out of Kolkata, India. Our signature sound is a heavy, moody fusion that blends the aggressive energy of early 2000s nu-metal and post-hardcore with dark electronic, industrial, EDM, and synthwave elements.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Our latest album, Escaping Darkness, represents a creative rebirth and a therapeutic exploration of internal battles with mental health. Featuring tracks like “Crawling Back,” “Holding On,” and our new single “Lost”, the record focuses entirely on navigating the psychological battle against internal demons like anxiety and depression.

Walk us through your creative process when creating music.

We create a cinematic and heavy soundscape by blending dark, ambient synths with driving, aggressive metal riffs. Our process focuses heavily on emotional contrast. We often start by building atmospheric electronic layers before launching into intense, distorted guitars to create real tension and release.

Now that the music is out, what does the ‘road ahead’ look like? Beyond tours and videos, what’s one ‘bucket list’ goal you hope to achieve with this release?

With our music released globally via our US label, From The Depths Entertainment, the immediate focus is bringing these complex soundscapes to live stages. Beyond tours and music videos, our ultimate “bucket list” goal is to bring our unique hybrid sound to massive international stages. We want to showcase modern Indian metal to a global audience.

Every artist has a ‘lightbulb moment’ where things just click. Looking back, what’s the one performance or milestone that made you realize, ‘Okay, this is what I was meant to do’?

Winning major regional competitions like the Rock Knock Band Fest and Strings Fest, alongside playing massive college stages like Spring Fest at IIT Kharagpur, were those exact moments for us. Standing in front of those high-energy crowds proved that our specific blend of heavy riffs and electronics truly resonates with live audiences.

We love championing Canadian talent. If you were curating a ‘Must-Listen’ playlist of emerging artists right now, who is the first person you’d add?

While we are deeply rooted in the Indian scene, we have immense respect for the global alternative community. The first artist we would add is the Canadian force Spiritbox. Their seamless balance of beautiful, atmospheric textures with crushing heaviness heavily aligns with our own sonic philosophy.

There’s nothing like the energy of a live room. Where can fans catch you on stage next, and for someone seeing you for the first time, what should they expect from a Shiverwood Shade live experience?

Fans can catch us live next on our Chasing Daylight Tour, which officially kicks off at major Tier I and Tier 2 cities in India in the year August 2026. If you are seeing us for the first time, expect an intense, atmospheric experience. It is a headbang-heavy, moody room where you can lose yourself in the driving electronics and find real catharsis in the aggression.
