For the moments you wish you could stay in forever
Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Jon Mullane returns with his infectious new single “Moon on Fire,” a vibrant, feel-good track that captures the magic of connection, passion, and summer nostalgia. Co-written in Nashville with hitmakers Michael Jay and Scott Barrier and produced by Creighton Doane, the song blends rock, pop, and country into a cinematic anthem that showcases Mullane’s signature storytelling and undeniable melodic strength.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m a singer/songwriter/performer. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, I was living in Los Angeles for several years and have returned to Nova Scotia and now based in Mahone Bay. I’ve released five full -length albums and I am about to release my new EP The Road.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My current single is Moon on Fire. It was written in Nashville with a couple of top hit song writers there, Michael Jay, and Scott Barrier. It’s a song about connection and passion with a nostalgic summer theme.
Walk us through your creative progress when creating music.
It’s not the same every time, but lately I’ve been writing on acoustic guitar. I usually start out with a melodic idea or sometimes a song title. When I’m in a cowrite, I’ll bring these ideas to the other writers and collectively we assess whether to develop them further. It’s always an exciting process for me!
Now that the music is out, what does the ‘road ahead’ look like? Beyond tours and videos, what’s one ‘bucket list’ goal you hope to achieve with this release?
Literally “The Road” EP comes out on April 2, 2026 and it’s been an interesting and exciting journey to get here. The new songs are a hybrid of Rock, Country and Pop so it would be very fulfilling to me to expand my audience among the different formats.
Every artist has a ‘lightbulb moment’ where things just clicked. Looking back, what’s the one performance or milestone that made you realize, ‘Okay, this is what I was meant to do’?
It was the first time I was interviewed on Much Music in the era when they were still playing music videos. I was very green and inexperienced, but the moment I stepped on that set it was that lightbulb moment knowing that I was supposed to be there doing this.
We love championing Canadian talent. If you were curated a ‘Must-Listen’ playlist of emerging artists right now, who is the first person you’d add?
I’ve been listening to Josh Ross lately, really well-crafted songs!
There’s nothing like the energy of a live room. Where can fans catch you on stage next, and for someonee seeing you for the first time, what should they expect from a [Band Name] live experience?”
Mostly it’s a high energy five-piece band performance. However, I’ll be doing a few intimate unplugged shows initially to promote the new EP. The first of those is in my hometown of Mahone Bay on April 11, 2026 at Eli & Trix.
