Rising Canadian Country Artist Dallas Alexander To Headline Show at Cook County Saloon on December 6th
Alberta-born, Nashville-based country singer-songwriter and military veteran Dallas Alexander is gearing up for a homecoming performance at the iconic Cook County Saloon in Edmonton, Alberta on December 6th. In addition to this exciting show, Dallas is set to release his highly-anticipated new single, “Meet You At The Riverbank,” on November 12th. This foot-stomping track, produced alongside country artists Gord Bamford and Johnny Gasparic, brings together the rustic sounds of banjo, fiddle, and mandolin, capturing the spirit of country and bluegrass traditions.
With a rich background that blends his Métis roots and military experiences, Dallas is making waves in the country music scene, recently collaborating with top talents and performing at major festivals. I’m thrilled to have him here to discuss his upcoming show, new music, and what’s next on his journey!
Upcoming Show:
December 6, 2024 – Edmonton, AB – Cook County Saloon
Hi again Dallas. What have you been up to since we last chatted?
So much has happened since we last chatted! Toured with Canadian Country artist, Gord Bamford last year, did our first rip of shows around the Southern States, checked off some bucket list items such as playing at Whiskey Jam in Nashville, opened for Jason Aldean, and also played at Kid Rock’s Honky Tonk on Broadway for the Green Barret Foundation which was so much fun. I’ve been keeping busy and often losing track of which city I am i,n to say the least.
A lot of people don’t realize this, but military service actually arms you with a unique set of tools that can set you up for success in pretty much any field—even in something as notoriously tough and competitive as the music industry. My advice? When your military career ends, don’t feel like you’ve lost your purpose. Instead, Embrace the opportunity to redefine your mission and pursue what truly drives you using all the skills, discipline, and resilience you’ve honed during your service.
Your single, “Meet You At The Riverbank” is out now. What inspired the song, and what can fans expect from its sound and lyrics?
The inspiration came from driving home from a gig one late night around 2 AM and on my mind I was thinking, ahhh so glad I don’t have to go to church the next morning. And this was the idea I brought to a write in Nashville with Blue Foley and Trick Savage. The sound is a little more stripped down and acoustic style, and the lyrics portray a message that God ain’t only at church 😉
The song blends traditional country and bluegrass elements like banjo, fiddle, and mandolin. How did these instruments come together to shape the song’s overall feel?
The content and overall vibe of the song and lyrics struck me as having a bluegrass essence, so we went for a more stripped-down studio recording.
You’ve had a chance to collaborate with some incredible talents, including Gord Bamford, Buddy Owens, and Justin Lantz. How did these collaborations come about, and what did you learn from working alongside them?
Since diving into this musical journey, I’ve been fortunate to connect with a diverse array of talented individuals. I strive to take something valuable from every show, song, and encounter within this industry, especially from those who have been in the game much longer than I have. I truly appreciate how gracious everyone has been in sharing their experiences with me.
You’re set to headline at the Cook County Saloon in Edmonton this December. What does it mean to return to your home province and perform at such an iconic venue?
Hell yeah! I’m beyond stoked for this show! It’s crazy how full circle this all feels. I’ll never forget the day I retired from the military—spent it watching Gord Bamford tear it up at this very venue. That was the day I met him, and shortly after, we started working together. I even told my buddies that night, “I’m coming back here to play Cook County one day.” And now, here we are! It’s wild to see it all come together like this. Trust me, it’s going to be a night to remember—tell your mama!
As someone who has transitioned from a military career to the music industry, what advice would you give to others who may be looking to follow a similar path of pursuing their passion after serving in the military?
