Filipino-Canadian R&B Singer MARZIA Shares Silky Lovestruck Debut “She Is Her”
Marzzhia Janine (MJ) Ancheta, mononymously known as MARZIA, is a Filipino-Canadian R&B singer born and raised in General Santos, Philippines. She has gained recognition around the world for her live performances and vocal range. MARZIA carries a strong influence from R&B, soul, and pop music, citing Ariana Grande, H.E.R., and Giveon as inspirations.
Now releasing her debut single, “She Is Her,” the artist shares:
“I wanted to emphasize how taking a hold of the right person is so important that instead of looking for the right person, be the right person. On the other hand, it’s also about a guy forgetting a girl’s value and it’s to remind him of how much she really means to him. It’s a realization on either partner’s side that you never realize what you have until it’s gone.“
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is MARZIA; a Filipino-Canadian R&B artist based in Vancouver. My artistic work consists of live shows, music production, session recording, and songwriting emerging from a pop/r&b musical upbringing. My passion for music and entertainment has led me to work and collaborate with the most talented of people. With this opportunity, I have been fully immersed in developing my artistry in the North American music catalogue. I love all things that connect the artist directly to their listeners and will strive to continue in the industry with that sense of self. I am honoured to have been surrounded by the best type of people and my hope is for my music to reach all who love R&B as much as I do.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
SHE IS HER is an R&B/Soul piece that emphasizes the importance of not just searching for the right person, but being the right person for the one you love and not taking their actions for granted. Produced by MARZIA, SHE IS HER originated from a Bible Verse that reads “She is more precious than rubies”, which then translated into inspiration for the lyrics; to surround it with the meaning of love through our caring actions especially as a girl. I’m so excited to continue to share the song and find all its reach within the world.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
When it comes to a song, the creative process can go 2 ways for me. The first way is if I’m suddenly inspired by a certain story, idea, or concept that is formulated in my head. This is when I’m hit with something right away and I need to write it all down. The lyrics would then come before the sound.
The other way is when I’m musically inspired and want to start with chord progression or tagline. This method is typically when I feel that I really need to lay out all of my thoughts and emotions. By having a solid structure for a melody to go over, I then create lyrics based on what I feel and how I want it to sound.
Songwriting is so different for many artists and for every way that artists get their creativity going, I am always so amazed. It’s a very powerful thing to be able to do and love at the same time.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
Following the release of “SHE IS HER”, the plan is to organize a release event for the song, prepare for performances this coming summer with the release of new songs, distribute a lyric video and music video project with more promotional content for not only SHE IS HER, but upcoming releases.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
Having been surrounded by music all my life, my biggest accomplishments are being a part of major live events for large entertainment companies. I would often be called in for guest performances for special events and I’m honoured to be able to share my music through this way. With that, I graduated in Music Technology and Engineering and was able to connect and learn more about the industry. In addition, was accepted into Berklee College of Music and am planning to get a greater education through there as well.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
