ReJigged Festival’s 13th Annual Celebration Begins Today

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Celtic music or simply curious to explore a new cultural experience, ReJigged Festival 2023 promises to delight and inspire. This year’s concerts and workshops will be held in the historic The Stage at St. Andrew’s Church, located in the heart of Halifax. Workshops will run on Saturday, Oct 21st, providing instruction in Music, Dance, and Language. There’s still time left to register!

Joining us all the way from Scotland, Tim is a renowned musician known for his captivating tunes and exceptional skills. Tim’s live solo shows are a stunning mix of world music-inspired instrumental virtuosity and passion with a strong Celtic theme – above all a highly entertaining night of musical genius.

Tim Edey is a double BBC Musician of the Year BBC ALBA/Scotland Best Traditional Musician 2020, BBC Radio Two  Musician of the Year 2012 (BBC R2 FOLK AWARDS)

Hailing from Scotland, Eilidh and Andy are long-time friends and musical partners, having met while studying music together in Glasgow in the 1990s. After years of touring and recording together, they both found themselves living not far from each other in Nova Scotia.

6 Hearts

6 Hearts is an extraordinary musical ensemble that brings together the talents of four musicians who share a deep passion for traditional music. Their name represents the four hearts of the original groups Vishtèn and The East Pointers, converging to create an unforgettable experience.

Together, 6 Hearts weaves a musical tapestry that is rich in tradition, yet infused with their own unique flair. Their performances are a celebration of the beauty and diversity of traditional music, taking audiences on a mesmerizing journey through different cultures and musical landscapes.

Jake Blount and Nic Gareiss

Jake Blount (pronounced Blunt)  is a singer and multi-instrumentalist described by NPR as “an Afrofuturist in roots-music garb.” A winner of the 2021 Steve Martin Banjo Prize and a Smithsonian Folkways recording artist, American Songwriter has dubbed him the “King of Roots.” 

Percussive dancer Nic Gareiss has been named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch,” and has been hailed by The New York Times for their “dexterous melding of Irish and Appalachian dance.” In 2020, Gareiss received the Michigan Heritage Award, the highest honor his home state bestows on traditional artists. 

Blount and Gareiss are not only skilled performers but researchers with degrees in ethnomusicology and ethnochoreology. Their years of experience as performers, educators, and scholars in their respective traditions have drawn them intimately close to one another and to the creative force at the heart of movement and music-making.

Jake Blount (pronounced: blunt) is an award-winning interpreter of Black folk music based in Providence, RI. Initially recognized for his skill as a string band musician, Blount has charted an unprecedented, Afrofuturist course on his pilgrimage through sound archives and song collections.
