Celestial Ruin Shares On Latest Single, “Lost My Mind”

Canadian hard-rock/ metal band, Celestial Ruin has unveiled their new hard-hitting single, “Lost My Mind”.

Produced by Mike Plotnikoff (Halestorm, Three Days Grace, Motley Crue) in Los Angeles, “Lost My Mind” is an edgy, down-and-dirty rock track that is driven by Larissa’s powerful vocals. The track delivers a serious punch that shows off the band’s technical prowess.

The video for the song captures the feel of a 1950s Asylum, as Larissa is left with no company except that of her own thoughts. Directed by Dave Benedict, with whom they worked on their “Heart Shaped Ashes” and “See U Nxt Tuezday” videos, Larissa said they felt the track warranted atypical treatment, something Benedict was happy to indulge them with.

“Dave is always on board with whatever insanity we come up with. He is a horror movie junkie just like me and is more than happy to mix his love of music with his love of the genre to create something visually thrilling and unique to watch”.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are Celestial Ruin. We’re a hard-rock/metal band out of Vancouver BC that was formed in 2011. We started as Symphonic Metal but as time went on, just like most artists, we grew and developed resulting in the new style we now present.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

We recently released our latest single “Lost My Mind”. The song was recorded and mastered in Los Angeles by Producer Mike Plotnikoff (Halestorm, Three Days Grace, Motley Crue) at West Valley Studios (Howard Benson).

When I wrote the lyrics for this song, the band was in a rough place. The song was written about fighting to succeed in the industry. Having the proverbial carrot dangled in front of you. Being so close you can almost taste it, only to have it ripped away and you have to start over again. It’s filled with angst, frustration, and grit.

We felt setting the accompanying music video in an asylum was perfect! The video was directed and edited by our good friend Dave Benedict (Default, Robby Hurricane).

We would love to thank Richard Smith who also had a huge hand in this track and if it wasn’t for him would never have been recorded.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

All my lyrics are based on personal experiences and emotions. I feel those are the most real, relatable, and honest songs. The ones based on a certain situation or experience in your life.

We usually all write the music together a group. The guitarist will usually pitch a riff and if I feel a connection to it, I start writing the lyrics and melodies. We have had a situation where I have collaborated with another musician outside of Celestial Ruin (Jurekk James) for the song “See U Nxt Tuezday”. We were all locked down in covid and we both wanted to do something, so I messaged him with my idea for this killer track and asked him to send me some riffs. The song came together really quickly but all in all its usually a collaborative effort in some shape or form.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

Right now, we do not have any upcoming shows. We are currently seeking a lead guitarist so we can proceed and continue to play and write. We have had many auditions but no luck so far in finding that perfect fit. So, if you know anyone, please send them our way!

What’s your goal for 2023?

Ideally to find a new guitarist and hit the stage again. I’d also love to release more self-produced music. I really enjoy the recording process and would love to get back into a studio soon!
