Toronto’s R&B Baddie Benita’s Debut EP SCARLET is Reborn with Deluxe Release
Toronto’s own R&B baddie, Benita, released her debut EP SCARLET on March 10th, 2022. Inspired by colours, her alter ego, and Marvel: the EP takes a deep dive into themes of love, passion, mystery, power, anger, and confidence. Now, Benita returns with the release of the deluxe version of the project. The 13-track project includes 4 brand-new songs. The deluxe version also includes the remix of “Dopamine” featuring NBDY.
Benita’s inspiration for the project was a brilliant red colour that connected all the tracks together.
She described her unique songwriting process,
“I’m a very visual person when it comes to creating music, and I’m in love with colours and the emotions that come from it,” she said. “Scarlet is also inspired by an alter ego/character, kind of like Sasha Fierce. Scarlet is a woman of strength and power, not afraid to say how she feels but at the same time she has her flaws causing her to be vulnerable.”
The project is all about love, toxicity, and girl power.
The focus track of the project “Better Off” is an upbeat single with a Jersey Club beat. “Better Off” is a summer dance anthem with feel-good lyrics that prove Benita’s versatility as an artist. Her intoxicating vocals, romantic production, and empowering lyrics continue to impress. Much like the colour scarlet, the EP is deep and dark. Benita’s smooth voice carries over a variety of production styles throughout the project. She layers and combines different genres with touches of pop, indie, and jazz. Benita wears her heart on her sleeve for every track. The intimacy of the project is sure to inspire listeners as they join her on a trippy exploration of heartbreak, situation-ships, and her inner self.
