Montreal Jazz Festival
Day 2: June 30th, 2023
with Buddy Guy
Tonight, the Montreal Jazz Festival is still going, with legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy playing Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier! It was a night not to forget, as the Rock n Roll hall of fame inductee is on his final tour, aptly named the Damn Right Farewell Tour.
Legends like Buddy aren’t getting any younger, and you could assume that at the age of 86, he might plop down on a stool and play his guitar, but no! He moved around the stage constantly, showcasing incredible energy and showmanship. He kicked things off warning the audience that “if you don’t like blues, you’re in the wrong house”, and the audience gave it right back to him, with standing ovations after almost every songs, and many fans in the audience shouting their love for the musician in-between tunes.
With the stage adorned in neons, giving it the cozy atmosphere of an underground Jazz club, Buddy and his band put on a 90-minute groovy show, resulting in a show that felt oh so special, the perfect way to say goodbye to a true legend on his last Canadian show.
