Two-time Guinness World Record-setting rapper Duane “D.O.” Gibson has recently unveiled his latest single, “Appreciate Ya,” featuring JUNO Award-winning R&B artist, JRDN.
The new single is an homage to mothers of mixed children, or as D.O. says in the lyrics, “It doesn’t matter the colour.” As a mixed child himself, D.O. shines a light on a generation of black kids raised by mothers of other ethnicities. And how these mothers faced challenges and dealt with unjust stigmas and were still amazing moms to their children.
In January 2023, D.O. launched his Black Canadian 365 Tour in British Columbia, and to date has visited more than 160 schools across Canada. Additionally, his virtual Black History event engaged more than 70 schools and will continue throughout June with performances in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
In addition to the single release, D.O. is also gearing up to headline the “From Margins to Mainstream” fundraising event at The Warehouse in Toronto, ON on June 29th. In partnership with the Pinball Clemons Foundation, the event will be an unforgettable night of music headlined by D.O. Gibson’s group “Art of Fresh”. It will also feature performances from an impressive lineup of up-and-coming musicians, including XenturySam, King Cruff, Amanda Movio, YBAfrmtajne, Yonge Drama, and JellyTooFly. Tickets are available here.
