Latin Grammy Canada Winner BenAnthony Lavoz Gets Raw with Aunque Me Mate

BenAnthony LaVoz dropped Aunque Me Mate his first full-length solo album on May 23, 2023. The three-time Latin Awards Canada winner and Latin Artist Of The Year recipient performs his truth on Aunque Me Mate. BenAnthony is a composer, songwriter, music producer & singer who brings a deep passion for his Latin heritage to the Canadian music table. He challenges current popular music by promoting traditional methods of composing Latin music, restoring the creative power to “el cantante” (the singer) and his band. Aunque Me Mate features mostly original compositions, recorded with live musicians. The album taps into BenAnthony’s connection with the ‘underground,’ a dark place where truth surrounds and inspires his raw passion.

BenAnthony started recording in his teens and hasn’t looked back. “I believe you must Love what you do” to make it work.”   The Latin performer has produced songs as a solo artist and collaborated with many in the Latin community both in Canada and Internationally. BenAnthony’s success has made him a go-to artist for international stars appearing in Toronto. He has opened for Prince Royce, Nicky Jam, Ozuna, Bad Bunny, and Dominican rapper El Alfa. Fresh off a tour with performances in Indonesia, England, France, Hungary, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Colombia, ending with a performance for Telemundo 51 in Miami, the Latin star is happy to be home for the release of Aunque Me Mate.

“I hope Aunque Me Mate (If it kills me) helps focus some much-needed attention on the neglected Canadian Latin music community. Latin music is the most streamed genre’ on Spotify and has no category at the Junos. I remain humbled by my success and determined to promote change”.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My Name is BenAnthony LaVoz a 3x Canadian Latin Grammy recipient. For the last decade, I have been involved in the Canadian Latin community. With my music, I have had the honor of representing my people as a 1 Generation Canadian Latino here at home, as well as abroad.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

I’m here now, on a mission with my latest album Aunque Me Mate. It contains 13 tracks all of which I’ve worked on from scratch. This album is going to challenge the latest Latin music being produced from the USA and Latin America, by deterring from the current urban flow, fully digital production, and shy away from the street talk, and focusing more on stories that pertain to my life: you are hearing my experiences through the art of Music. With this project we are setting to gain the acknowledgment that Latin Artists have so long waited for; Latin music is the #1 Streaming music in the whole work; and its time Canada Stands behind her very own – BenAnthony LaVoz

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

My writing session is extremely straining and very personal to me. All my songs come transmitting for a higher power, and gifting it to the masses.

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

After the Aunque Me Mate release, I will be heading to San Fransico to perform at their massive Latin Street festival, from there I will be taking the Canadian Summer by storm, Giving music that people can dance, celebrate, and be proud of calling their very own

What’s your goal for 2023?

My goal is to have the Juno Awards recognize Latin music as a category. Latin music is all over the airwaves and it’s time to get behind the Canadian Latin artists that are producing the music tooth and nail, to bring very much-needed feel-good music into our lives.
