Weezer Delivers an Unforgettable Night of Nostalgia, Energy, and Spectacular Production at Place Bell

What an incredible night at Place Bell in Laval! Weezer came to town on September 26 with The Shins opening, and while both bands delivered musically, Weezer absolutely owned the night.

The Shins were first up and, musically, they were solid. The band sounded tight and the songs came across well, but unfortunately, the live show itself felt a little flat. There wasn’t quite enough energy or stage presence to really grab the audience, and at times the performance felt a bit boring. That said, they sounded great and were a good way to get the evening started.

Then Weezer hit the stage — and WOW!

From the opening moments, the energy in the building completely changed. The production was absolutely incredible. They made fantastic use of the house setup originally used for The Gathering, incorporating the lighting, screens, visuals, and stage effects in a way that made the entire performance feel much bigger and more immersive. It was a perfect combination of spectacle and music, and you could tell a lot of thought went into the production.

And the setlist? Fantastic.

Hearing classics like “Buddy Holly,” “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Say It Ain’t So,” “Hash Pipe,” and “Island in the Sun” live was a huge highlight. The crowd absolutely exploded during the big sing-along moments, and Rivers Cuomo and the band fed off that energy throughout the entire show. There was a real sense that Weezer was having as much fun being on stage as the audience was watching them.

One of the biggest surprises of the night was when the singer from Silversun Pickups joined Weezer on stage for three songs. It was an unexpected and really fun addition to the show, and the chemistry between the musicians made those songs stand out as one of the night’s memorable moments.

But honestly, one of the best parts of the entire concert was the crowd.

It was amazing to see how few phones were out. Barely a phone in the air! People were actually living in the moment — singing along, jumping, dancing, and enjoying the music instead of recording the entire show. That made the atmosphere feel so much more authentic and energetic. The crowd at Place Bell was completely into it, and that enthusiasm clearly came through from the stage.

Weezer didn’t just play a concert — they put on a show. The production was spectacular, the band sounded great, the setlist delivered plenty of nostalgia and huge sing-along moments, and the audience brought an incredible amount of energy.

An absolutely fantastic Weezer show and one of those concerts where you walk out thinking, “Yeah… that was worth it.”
