Elina Filice returns with the bittersweet yet anthemic single, “These Days”
Written about the pain and longing of a long-distance relationship, “These Days” from Elina Filice, examines the feeling of always running out of time. Sparse, emotive verses build to an electrifying hook that you’ll want to scream-sing in the car. With a steadfast rhythm and stuck-in your-head melodies, the song shimmers with hope and yearning.
Written in the hours spent driving to and from a different city to see a loved one, the ethos of the song reflects the unresolved feeling of leaving your heart in another place – the push and pull of being neither really here nor there.
Elina says,
“In a long distance relationship, the future is all you have. So the song is about the necessity of believing the future will be better. The present is filled with loneliness and pain. You grasp on to every small moment and hold it close to you, to get through the times apart. There’s a constant feeling of running out of time. You really have to believe that at some point, you’ll have all the time in the world.”
Her first release in two years, the song explores a deep sense of hope for the future whilst recognising the pull of the present: “Constantly on the run, always unsettled, relying on memories and anticipation of the next visit, and yearning for a time where you’ll just have more time”.
Review
“One of These Days” is the kind of track that sticks with you—catchy in all the right ways, yet undeniably beautiful at its core. From the opening lines, there’s an honest vulnerability that draws you in, while the melody effortlessly carries the weight of long-distance love and longing. Lyrics like “Where do I even start / Nobody makes me feel like I have a fire for a heart” set the tone for a song that feels both personal and easy to connect with.
The chorus is the part that really sticks—it’s the kind you find yourself humming without even realizing it. “One of these days… if it don’t feel okay right now you know it’s gonna be okay” feels simple, but in the best way. It’s comforting, like something you need to hear, especially when things feel a little heavy.
It’s that mix of catchy and beautiful that gives “One of These Days” its staying power. Filice manages to turn something as heavy as distance and missing someone into a song that feels light, hopeful, and worth singing along to—proving that even the hardest emotions can still sound bright.
