BY “DANCING WITH THE DEVIL”, ANNIKA CATHARINA WEAVES TOGETHER EDGY STORYTELLING AND BOLD COUNTRY-ROCK ENERGY TO CALL OUT BAD PRACTICES IN TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS
Breakout Canadian country artist Annika Catharina has unveiled her latest single, “Dancing with the Devil” across all digital streaming platforms.
As her first single of 2026, “Dancing with the Devil” was written by Annika and Spencer Burns and produced by The Renaissance (Dan Botch and Garrett Ward). It seamlessly integrates contemporary country and rock elements that match the song’s bold energy and edgy storytelling.
Annika says,
“I often gravitate toward relationship songs, and this single explores what happens after one person clearly crosses the line of what’s healthy and acceptable. When you look back on a toxic relationship, you’ll often find the red flags were there all along, but it’s easier to keep excusing them until it all becomes impossible to ignore. ‘Dancing with the Devil’ is about finally seeing someone clearly for who they really are and calling them out on it.”
“Dancing with the Devil” is the third release from Annika’s upcoming debut album, “Up All Night”, and follows the earlier singles “Under Covers”, for which she was chosen as the JR Country Artist of the Month, and “Better Hands”, which reached 150K Spotify streams and was added to 4 editorial playlists across Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.
Based in the Fraser Valley region of British Columbia, Annika has maintained a steady musical output over the last two years and generated an enthusiastic and overwhelmingly positive response from industry tastemakers and fans across Canada and beyond.
The groundbreaking highlights have included a Billboard Canada Country Top 50 single (“Love and Hate”) which earned Annika iHeart Radio Future Star and Rogers One to Watch honours, over 2 million digital streams, 40+ editorial playlist placements (including the Apple and Amazon cover slots), Spotify RADAR Canada and Equal Canada nods, back-to-back #1 singles on SiriusXM Top of the Country radio, a semi-finalist spot in the 2025 SiriusXM Top of the Country Competition, and a finalist nod in the 2025 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase.
On the wave of these accomplishments, Annika is currently nominated for three 2026 BC Country Music Association Awards (Female Artist, Emerging Artist, Songwriter) in her home province.
The release of “Dancing with the Devil” cracks the door further ajar for what listeners can expect from Annika Catharina’s debut album, while setting the stage for her to continue adding to an already-impressive series of accomplishments.
Review
Annika Catharina’s “Dancing with the Devil” lands as an intense, emotionally charged—and undeniably addictive—anthem about breaking free from a toxic relationship. From the opening lines, there’s a strong sense of clarity emerging, as vulnerability gives way to confidence and she refuses to accept empty apologies any longer.
The lyrics are sharp, relatable, and hit close to home, calling out manipulation and repeated lies with honesty. The “dancing with the devil” metaphor anchors the song, capturing both the pull of a harmful relationship and the strength it takes to finally walk away. It’s less about heartbreak and more about empowerment—choosing yourself after finally seeing the truth.
What really drives the song is its emotional punch—every line feels lived-in and real, building toward a chorus that’s both catchy and empowering. It’s the kind of track that makes you feel seen while giving you the push to move on, proving Annika Catharina knows exactly how to turn hard truths into something unforgettable.
