THE DIVINE PROJECT Unleash Video “Don’t Startle The Murder” Off New Rebirth EP

Canadian metal act The Divine Project has officially re‑emerged with Rebirth, a ferocious and emotionally charged EP that marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band. Faster, heavier, and more complex than anything in their catalogue, “Rebirth” is a declaration of intent, a sharpened, revitalized version of The Divine Project that refuses to be ignored.

The band is sharing their latest music video for “Don’t Startle The Murder”, as well as a run of March tour dates across Ontario with SELIAS, bringing their high‑energy, pit‑starting live show to fans new and old (dates listed below).

Rebirth is a four‑track journey through resistance, collapse, danger, and endurance. Written as the band’s official relaunch, the EP blends modern metal, groove, djent, metalcore, and cinematic aggression into a sound that fans struggle to categorize, but instantly recognize.

The EP was built on a strict philosophy: If the five of them can’t play it live, it doesn’t go on the record. Every sound on “Rebirth” is performed live without essential backing tracks.

Pre‑production was done entirely in‑house, with demos so polished that Eardrum Valley Records used the original guitar and bass tracks in the final mix. Only drums and vocals were re‑recorded in the studio.

The band has released a new music video for “Don’t Startle The Murder”, the EP’s most volatile and cinematic track. The song’s title is intentional wordplay; a “murder” is a group of crows, and the lyrics explore the predatory nature of self‑righteous authority figures. A fun fact about the track is that the Latin‑inspired bridge features percussion recorded using children’s toys, a plastic maraca, and a clapper, after the band realized they had no Latin instruments on hand during vocal tracking.

The video amplifies the song’s tension, psychological pressure, and explosive energy, capturing the essence of The Divine Project’s new era.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Absolutely. We are The Divine Project from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Before you ask what genre of music we are, know that we always have a hard time classifying this ourselves. From what the internet and people tell us, we are a modern/alternative metal band… But I think we can throw in djent, nu-metal, and groove metal into the mix.

Ro Stevens is the frontman and main vocalist for the band. As our drummer, Mitch Greenham, is the engine that keeps us moving. Mr. Derek ‘DRock’ Boshkov lays down the bass. David T. Anselmo is our lead guitarist, and Eric Divine rounds up the band on guitar as well.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

‘Rebirth’ (EP, Nov 2025) is our reintroduction to the world as a faster, heavier, and more complex band. Our goal was to make sure we came out swinging, writing music intended to feel like a punch to the face. We were determined, focused, and angry when we made this EP, and we didn’t care what people would think of us. It truly is a blend of the music we love, while telling stories of the life we hate. Rebirth is a heavy, emotionally-charged EP that moves through resistance, disillusionment, danger, and ultimately endurance. For us, Rebirth lives up to its name. Not as a clean reset, but as a hard-earned return for The Divine Project; fighting our way through the collapse of old truths, and emerging with something stronger, sharper, and more alive.

Walk us through your creative process when creating music.

We like to take a collaborative approach when writing music. We have writing sessions, which we call our ‘demo nights’, to go over songs and ideas we’ve individually put together, and then decide which ones we want to work on. Our main collaborative space has been within a shared Google Drive consisting of an ideas folder where we all drop riffs, songs, etc. that we can later review as a team. We dissect, discuss, and critique everything so the music isn’t stuck in one style or one train of thought. We then put together ideas on how to improve the song, try it out, and if it works, it works; and if not, we do something else. This approach helps everyone feel heard and involved and makes sure we all influence our music so it’s not driven by one person. With that said, there are times when one of us will come up with a song, and we all instantly fall in love with it. When this happens, we know it’s because we have this understanding that we are writing music for The Divine Project, not solemnly for ourselves. In the end, we don’t consider a demo done until everyone is happy with it – which honestly hasn’t been that hard to achieve. We write banger after banger, and we love them all *laugh*.

For Rebirth, it was made to be a relaunch for TDP. It’s a tribute to the past and a gateway to the present and future. The songs give homage to the sounds that inspired us (Ro, Mitch, David, and Derek) to join this band and create a new chapter for TDP. Don’t Startle The Murder was already written by Eric, going into making the EP. The other 3 songs were built from scratch. All the songs were designed to be heavy, fast, and technically proficient while equally memorable. We want people to know that The Divine Project is here to stay.

Now that the music is out, what does the ‘road ahead’ look like? Beyond tours and videos, what’s one ‘bucket list’ goal you hope to achieve with this release?

It’s hard to make it as an indie band. Not just from the ‘fame’ perspective, but from a financial stance as well. For us, our goal has always been the same: push The Divine Project as hard and as far as we possibly could, and then push more, so we can make music our only career. We’ve all come from different musical paths and journeys, and all experienced our own challenges in this industry. We all share the same belief that music is our calling and one day it will be our way of life. Now, as a team, we all work day after day trying to make music a permanent part of our lives. With all that said, I guess our bucket list goal with this EP is to open doors and get opportunities to start our long-lasting, full-time music careers as The Divine Project.

Every artist has a ‘lightbulb moment’ where things just clicked. Looking back, what’s the one performance or milestone that made you realize, ‘Okay, this is what I was meant to do’?

As a band, there were 2 key-instances that we knew we had something special. The first: when we all first heard the demos put together for Rebirth. Hearing the music, especially the track ‘The Longest Night’, put together like it ended up being… we knew we had something special. But the ‘this is what we were meant to do’ moment had to be our first show together as a band. We think it was during DSTM, the second verse, after Eric and Derek got back on stage from playing inside the pit, that we glanced at each other and knew this was what we wanted to do forever. After the show, we had so many people approach us, thank us for the performance, and applaud our music and style. The promoter (Neurotic Entertainment) was also blown away and told us we were the real deal. That stuck with us, and since then, we never stopped working towards this music thing *laugh*

We love championing Canadian talent. If you were curating a ‘Must-Listen’ playlist of emerging artists right now, who is the first person you’d add?

Oh man, that’s a tough question. No 1 person comes up, but a handful of local talent that we would throw onto a must-listen playlist. To start, we gotta recognize Killotine. They are heavy, fast, and in your face. A machine ready to destroy the music scene. Like us, Night of the Snake is back from a long hiatus. They are bringing back that Myspace metalcore music we all loved when we were growing up. Jupiter Hollow is an insane band that we all admire. Everyone in the band is a fan of theirs, and their shows are an epic journey. Finally, Kill The Bur is in the works with new music, and from what we heard, the next release (EP or LP) is going to be awesome.

There’s nothing like the energy of a live room. Where can fans catch you on stage next, and for someone seeing you for the first time, what should they expect from The Divine Project live experience?”

We are going to be supporting our buddies in Selias when they hit Canada for their March Mayhem tour. Starting March 13th, you can catch us in London, Oshawa, and Toronto, Ontario. You can find tickets and more info at www.TDP-Official.com. For those experiencing us for the first time, make sure you’ve got some good shoes on and are ready to move around. Be ready to bang your heads, and to join (or stay clear) of pits; but, if you find yourself in one, don’t be surprised if you find Eric or DRock in there also.
