A Chilling New Chapter begins with the release of “Uncanny”
A chilling new chapter for Ace of Wands is unfolding with the release of “Uncanny,” which arrived Wednesday, February 18. Produced by Ian Blurton (Change of Heart, Future Now), the track builds on a dark undercurrent of colossal gothic rock, layered with haunting, spectral violins that linger long after the final note.
Inspired by the concept of the doppelgänger and a deep fascination with gothic horror, “Uncanny” explores the unsettling idea of confronting a mirror image of yourself — identical in movement and appearance, yet charged with an eerie strangeness. It captures that disturbing closeness: a reflection that feels both intimate and alien, a shadow self that blurs the line between familiarity and fear.
The single offers a first glimpse into the band’s forthcoming third full-length album, Future Wave, set for release on April 28, 2026. Also produced by Ian Blurton, the 13-song collection promises to expand on the band’s brooding sonic landscape while pushing further into bold, cinematic territory.
The release of Future Wave will be supported by a run of Canadian tour dates, with details to be announced.
“I’m a huge horror fan, and I’ve always been interested in the idea of the “gothic double”: a duality of the self that surfaces as a kind of haunting. As I spend more and more time online trying to promote the band, I think about this duality and the persona I adopt for my “public face.” I began to see it as an unsettling, eerie version of myself. A self that seeks validation through perfectionism and public recognition. “Uncanny” felt like an exorcism of this doppelgänger, and a resurfacing of my authentic self.”
