Jackson Reed and The Silverbirds – Five Questions With

Jackson Reed and The Silverbirds return with Live in ’25, their first EP in four years and their most ambitious project to date. The collection blends electrifying live performances with newly cut studio tracks, capturing the band at a moment of genuine breakthrough. The EP commemorates their milestone appearance in October 2025 when they shared the stage with rock legends Nazareth in front of a sold-out audience of more than 2,000 at Edmonton’s River Cree Resort and Casino.

The Calgary based lineup features Jackson Reed on lead vocals and guitar, Jeremy Brigham on keyboards, Nathan Litvinchuk on drums, Deandre Crowe on bass, and newest member Tanner St. James on guitar. Fresh off the success of their 2024 release Little Red Corvette, the band spent 2025 strengthening their reputation as a dynamic touring act. They opened for fan favorites like Streetheart, and 604 Records’ rising stars The Vidos. All the while, Jackson’s music podcast Guess That Record continued to attract high profile guests including Neil Giraldo, Phil Manzanera, and Dominic Miller. The invitation to perform with Nazareth became the spark for a new body of work.

“It had been a while since our last release, and I had a backlog of songs that I felt strongly about,” Reed explains. “Landing the Nazareth show was a huge moment for us, and it was the perfect chance to capture some of these new tracks. This performance became the backbone of the EP.”

Live in ’25 highlights the band’s evolving musicianship, and the in-the-room chemistry that has defined their rise. “Did I Miss Out” and “Maxine” deliver the energy and showmanship that have become their signature, while “Warmth of July” reveals a more intimate side of the group and showcases Reed’s growth as a storyteller. Rounding out the EP is the studio cut “Do You Feel The Way I Do,” which continues the polished pop direction Reed introduced with the 2023 release In My Head.

A live release of this scale is uncommon today. Yet for a band that proudly embraces its classic rock roots, it feels perfectly aligned. The record puts listeners in the front row, capturing the power, character, and excitement of a defining moment in the band’s early history.

Live in ’25 arrives alongside a companion concert film that merges performance footage with narrative elements to paint a fuller picture of the band’s evolution. As Nazareth frontman Carl Sentance said after watching their set: the group is “the next big thing.”

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Jackson Reed, and I’m the lead singer and guitarist for the Calgary-based group Jackson Reed and The Silverbirds. We combine our classic rock influences with modern pop to create catchy and exciting tracks. Besides that, I’m also the host of the music podcast Guess That Record which has featured some of the biggest names in music and entertainment. This includes Andy Summers, Neil Giraldo, Phil Manzanera, Dominic Miller, David Paich, Billy West, and many more.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Our new EP is called Live in ’25, which is available now. It’s our most ambitious release to date, featuring both studio cuts and live tracks. The live portion of the EP was recorded this past October, when we had the chance to open for rock legends Nazareth at the River Cree Casino in Edmonton in front of a sold out crowd of more than 2,000 people. It was our first time in front of an audience that big, and it made sense to commemorate the occasion by immortalizing the show as our next record. We also filmed the show, and we have a full length concert movie available on our YouTube channel to go alongside the EP. It blends footage from the show with narrative elements to paint a bigger picture of the experience.

Walk us through your creative progress when creating music.

I feel like it’s so different for every song. Some tracks will come together relatively quickly, and others take a long time. Live in ’25 was very interesting in that regard because of how varied the recordings were. Obviously with the live stuff, there wasn’t room for tinkering or doing multiple takes of a track. However, I think it speaks to how well we perform as a band that we were able to rise to the occasion and produce some great sounding songs on stage. The studio tracks on this record were also different than usual because it was the first time I recorded tracks entirely on my own. That was another new process for me, but once again everything turned out great there.

Now that the music is out, what does the road ahead look like? Beyond tours and videos,
what’s one bucket list goal you hope to achieve with this release?

I just want to keep expanding our audience and reach. I feel confident that this is the record that will hopefully push us over the top in that regard. I’m really happy with the songs, and between the massive concert we played with Nazareth, as well as my podcast, it really feels like we have the right momentum to find some success. Just have to keep working hard.

Every artist has a lightbulb moment; where things just clicked. Looking back, what’s the one performance or milestone that made you realize, Okay, this is what I was meant to do?

It would be hard not to say that this recent show with Nazareth was a truly groundbreaking moment for us. We’ve been chasing an opportunity like that for years, and it feels great we were finally able to make it happen. For us to perform in front of an audience that big, and successfully entertain them is proof to me that we can do this at a high level.

We love championing Canadian talent. If you were curating a Must-Listen playlist of emerging artists right now, who is the first person you’d add?

We have a headlining show coming up in Calgary, and our opening act is Kylie Austin. Go check her out.

There’s nothing like the energy of a live room. Where can fans catch you on stage next, and for someone seeing you for the first time, what should they expect from your live experience?

As I just alluded to, we will be performing at the King Eddy in Calgary on March 20th. The King Eddy is such an awesome venue, and we always love to play there. If you aren’t in Calgary, make sure to watch our Live in ’25 Concert Film. You’ll get the full experience for what it’s like to watch our energetic and exciting live show.
