Song is first taste of more new music expected in 2026 from Canadian bluegrass/Americana group
After making a strong impression on the international roots music scene with their 2025 debut EP It’s Only Forever, Canadian Americana/bluegrass band Cabin Fever is getting set to follow it up with another batch of original tunes. First out of the gate in 2026 is “Good Old Days,” a song with a barroom feel that’s quickly become a crowd favourite at Cabin Fever shows thanks to its catchy vibes that get audiences instantly clapping, stomping and singing along.
The band’s guitarist/vocalist Kyle Faulkner says,
“This song started as many songs do, with a single lyrical phrase—in this case, a family member’s favourite saying, ‘These ARE the good old days!’ I hear it at every family gathering. It reminds us to live in the moment, and appreciate that one day we’ll look back on these times and smile as we reminisce.”
“Good Old Days” is one of the new tracks Cabin Fever recently recorded with producer Matt Weston at his Swamp Songs studio, with Matt chipping in on drums as well. The sessions carry on the spirit of camaraderie that took Kyle Faulkner, bassist/vocalist Jessica McKay and mandolin player Colin Jolly from playing around campfires to opening for some of Canada’s top live acts, including The Sadies, The Once, and Sam Roberts Band.
Although steeped in bluegrass tradition, Cabin Fever see themselves as a modern-day roots music unit, pushing the sonic envelope with the addition of other elements to add an extra kick to an already high-octane sound. For the band, it’s never been about sticking to the rules, but instead writing original songs that can connect with roots music fans of all stripes.
