ONE TAKE. LIVE OFF-THE-FLOOR. 5TH PROJEKT’S HAUNTING AND HYPNOTIC NEW SINGLE, “OBLIVION”
“Oblivion,” the debut single from 5th PROJEKT’s first live off-the-floor EP, Live In London has been released, in advance of the album’s release on May 13th, 2026 via their own independent label, Organik Rekords.
The Toronto psychedelic art-rock band invites us to take part in this moody ceremonial opener, preparing the space for the ritual that is to follow. Originally appearing on the band’s debut studio album “Circadian,” the song is reimagined here with a slow-burn introduction that deepens its haunting, hypnotic pull.
As the veil between dark trip-hop and gothic rock thins, Tara Rice’s ethereal vocals move like an invocation, grounded by the descent of her arpeggiated guitar chords. The deep groove of David Pake’s drums and Peter Broadley’s bass carry the song to the threshold of the void, while Sködt McNalty’s ambient guitars echo into infinity.
“Oblivion” is the first of five songs recorded live off-the-floor at The Sugar Shack in London for the Incorrect Thoughts live band series. “Oblivion” establishes the tone and intent for the upcoming raw and immersive EP, Live In London.
Review
5th PROJEKT’s live version of “Oblivion” hits deep. By stripping away the studio layers, the band has turned an older favorite into something that feels way more raw and ritualistic. It has this magnetic, slow-burn quality that pulls you in immediately, creating a shadowy world that feels both massive and incredibly intimate at the same time, with Tara Rice’s vocals floating over a heavy, hypnotic groove that feels like it’s echoing into a void.
The lyrics really hit home, too—especially that line about not being “scared sacred becoming a minion.” It feels like a wake-up call about finding your own backbone and crossing lines you were always told to stay behind. As an intro to their Live In London EP, “Oblivion” does exactly what it’s supposed to: it sets a haunting, beautiful tone for everything to come.
