PYTHONIC Unleash Ferocious Single “Liturgy” Ahead of SLAUGHTERFEST 2025 in Edmonton
Saskatoon, Canada’s death thrash force Pythonic has announced the release of their second single, “Liturgy”, following the success of their first single, “Guiltfeeder”. Both tracks pave the way for the band’s highly anticipated sophomore EP Decomposition, set to drop on December 19, 2025.
Formed by guitarist Vincent Kohut, Pythonic was born out of a desire to break free from subgenre constraints and deliver metal in its purest, most aggressive form. Alongside lead guitarist Ryan Hunter, bassist Max Hiske, drummer Jayden, and new vocalist Morgan Warriner, the band has forged a sound described as aggressive, groovy, raw, thick, and dirty.
“Liturgy came out so good on the recordings, we couldn’t help but spotlight this track. The riffs rip, the drums rip, the bass rips, what can we say, this song rips. It’s such a classic metal song, with lyrics about summoning a demon under a blood moon. Morgan’s guttural delivery took it to another level,” says the band.
The band’s second EP, Decomposition, represents a heavier, more death-metal-oriented chapter for Pythonic. Tracks such as “Conceit”, “Pills”, and “Collateral” showcase themes of corruption, addiction, toxic relationships, and triumph, while “Liturgy” embodies the band’s darker, more extreme influences. The EP artwork, created by Danya Lawton, visually decays the band’s debut imagery to reflect the reimagined nature of the songs.
“When we brought in Morgan as our new singer, the songs came alive again. What once felt tired now feels powerful; his vocals gave them the chance they deserved. Max’s bass adds a soul-shaking thump, especially on Collateral, while Jayden’s heavier drumming drives the tracks with ferocity and double kicks. We also worked with Reid Paraszczynec of Lucid Distortion Audio, a longtime friend of Vincent and Ryan, whose mixing and mastering made the songs sound phenomenal. Reid’s sharp ear and easygoing nature helped usher in the next chapter of Pythonic the right way,” adds the band.
Fans can brace themselves for an all-out assault of crushing riffs, pounding bass, unrelenting drums, and guttural vocals, solidifying Pythonic as a powerhouse in Canada’s rising metal scene.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey, my name is Vincent Kohut and I play rhythm guitar and do backing vocals and manage the band Pythonic.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
We are releasing our next EP titled ‘decomposition’. It features 5 tracks that have been reworked from our first EP. We like to refer to the tracks as being ‘decomposed’ as we shaved a fair bit of play time from most the tracks. The tracks also feature our new vocal direction which is a lot more death metal leaning. The vocals are performed by Morgan Warriner and he brings such a beastly tone to all the tracks. The EP also features the first recordings with Jayden Warriner as well as new bass player Max Hiske. This has to be one of the best line up’s Pythonic has ever had. The EP was mixed and masters by Reid Paraszczynec at Lucid Distortion Audio. He was such a joy to work with and knows how to do metal mixing so well and really works with the artist to get a good finished product.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
A lot of the creative process used to be all done in person and through sharing audio files. Nowadays though we are doing a lot more work through guitar pro. Vincent or Ryan general come up with some riffs and tab them out and we start sharing them among the band. Then Ryan generally writes a base level bass line and Max then takes it and adds his expertise to the track to get the best bridge between the drums and guitar. Drums we mostly write in person still as it’s easier for Jayden to create behind the kit and then it gives us the chance to listen to it in more real time and make sure everything feels good. Lyrically Morgan has been taking the guitar pro files and listening to them and getting lyrics written. Once we got it all together we start playing it as a band and do tweaks to riffs and lyrics as we need to portray what we need to as effectively as we can.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
For this particular project the goal was to just get it out before the end of the year and we managed to squeak that in. We released the first single ‘Guiltfeeder’ on November 21st 2025 and the same day we got to open for Canadian metal legends Into Eternity. The next single was ‘Liturgy’ and we released that December 5th in conjunction with us heading down to Edmonton to open up Slaughterfest at the Starlite Room main stage on December 6th. After that, other than an online push, there aren’t any other dates booked for shows. But we are working on getting another EP out very soon in 2026!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
The biggest turning point in the band to date was dropping our original vocalist at the beginning of January and moving Morgan from bass to lead vocals. We have gotten so much positive feedback. It has also led us to gain more high-end shows. This past July, we got to open for 200 Stab Wounds at the Black Cat Tavern in Saskatoon, and that was such an electrifying show. The guys in 200 were all really awesome, and it seemed like they really liked our sound as well. Here’s to hoping to play more shows with them! Later in the year, we also got to open for Into Eternity, and that was also quite an exceptional moment. Pair that with praise from Stu Block on how sick Morgan’s vocals were, and also Matt Cuthberson letting Ryan and me know how good our performance was that night as well. Really helps solidify that we are heading in the right direction.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
For local bands in Saskatoon, the best ones to check out for sure are Augurium and Deadsunday. Both have such amazing live shows and great musicians in their bands. Also, YEGG from BC absolutely rips. We got to open for them in Regina this past summer, great musicians and great dudes. They did a sick cover of ‘Pull the Plug’ by Death. I would also like to mention Death Machine from BC as well. I’ve been spinning a lot of their tracks lately. Crazy good production, crazy sick riffs.
