Trivium, Jinjer & Heriot

With an absolutely stacked lineup, the “Ascend Above The Ashes” tour steamrolled it’s way through Calgary, as part of a 6-week tour finishing off Dec 14th in Trivium‘s hometown of Orlando, FL.
Heriot, the British metalcore band started off the evening with a ferocious 6-song set, helmed by frontwamna Debbie Gough – and all I have to say is WOW.. Insanely heavy stuff… Guitarist Erhan Alman is a maniac, thrashing all over his side of the stage as if possessed. Debbie Gough may be the new queen of slam – her vocals are phenomenal. This is a band to keep an eye out for, without a doubt.

Jinjer carried things along, a band I’ve been waiting a long time to see – and they did not disappoint. Vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk is enthralling – switching between vocal styles flawlessly, and commanding the stage with a presence few can match. They were in high gear from the very first note, kicking off the set with “Duel”, and not letting up until their final track, “Pisces”.

Trivium hit the stage with “In Waves”, and immediately set the tone for the rest of a set I can only describe as impeccable. Showcasing a 14-song set spanning 7 albums, Trivium delivered hit after hit and hit, with personal highlights for me being “Strife” and “A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation”. Heafy & Co. were in fine form, along with new drummer Alex Rudinger – who joined the band just one month ago. You wouldn’t know it though, the man was absolutely on fire from start to finish. As former skin basher for Whitechapel, the man has a serious pedigree.

It’s always a great time when Trivium comes to town, and this was no exception.
