ABYGALE DURIE CHANNELS COUNTRY ROOTS AND TIMELESS VALUES ON HEARTFELT NEW SINGLE ‘OLD SCHOOL IN YOU’
Rising Canadian country artist Abygale Durie has released her reflective new song “Old School In You,” available now. Co-written with Corey Barker and produced by Matt McKay, the track delivers a heartfelt tribute to the kind of love that never goes out of style – one rooted in honesty and timeless values.
With its blend of modern production and classic country spirit, “Old School In You” showcases Durie’s sincerity as both a writer and performer. The Alberta-born artist says she wanted the song to have a “two-step beat for people to dance to,” while carrying a message of hope and warmth.
“Sometimes it’s just the small things that people do for one another that matter most,” she explains. “To me, that is love.”
Durie originally wrote the song several years ago in Nashville, and held onto it, waiting for the right moment to release it. “I feel like the world needs a little more of that old school love right now,” she says, “and I hope the song is inspiring to listeners.”
“Old School In You” is the first of a series of songs Durie plans to release over the coming months as she marks a new creative chapter. She will return to Nashville in December for writing sessions and continues to focus on building momentum as she looks toward an exciting 2026.

My name is Abygale Durie and I am from Ranfurly Alberta and music is not just my career but it is my life!
“Old School In You” is described as a tribute to timeless love and values. What specific “old school” qualities or gestures do you find most essential in a relationship, and how did you try to capture that feeling in the lyrics?
I value the simple little things in relationships that most of the time people overlook. In the song when we say “you bring me coffee when I need it …” speaks volumes because it shows that something as simple as coffee goes a lot farther than a grand gesture such as a dozen roses and a bottle of wine. To me it is the everyday simplicities that really build a loving relationship.
You co-wrote the song with Corey Baker. What was the writing process like, and what part of the song did you feel the strongest about when you finished it?
When collaborating with Corey Barker I pitched the idea of writing an old school type love song where we both found our own way in which we connected to the song. We left the room feeling really uplifted and positive that this song would bring some reflection back to the appreciation of the little things.
You wrote this song several years ago in Nashville. Why did you decide that now was the right time to release it, and how do you feel the message of “old school love” resonates with the world today?
I decided now was the right time because I feel the world needs more love and hope. I don’t feel that there ever is a wrong time to reflect and to show gratitude to the ones you love.
What was it like working with producer Matt McKay to blend the “modern production and classic country spirit” in this track?
Matt McKay generates a lot of great ideas and really has a sense of hearing not only the song but the feeling you are trying to create. I feel he really captured the emotion in my vocal takes and took the time to really process and fine tune the little details that some producers overlook. When the song is about the little things I feel Matt McKay was the perfect fit for producing this song.
You are heading back to Nashville in December for writing sessions. When you enter a writing room, what are you typically hoping to explore or achieve in a new song?
I never expect anything when I enter a writing room, I am always over prepared and ready to work. However that being said I believe that every opportunity to be in a room with another creative mind and artist has the potential to be limitless and full of possibility. I believe myself to be truly blessed and I am very grateful for any and all opportunities that come my way.
