Light House Arts Centre, Halifax, NS
Through Whitecap Entertainment, Shawn Desman’s “Back to Life” Tour came to the Light House Arts Centre in Halifax on November 6, with Jamie Fine opening the night. Fine opened with good vibes and was chatty and genuinely happy to be there. She reminded the crowd that “everyone is on your team, including me,” when it feels like everyone else is against them. She took some time to speak about her love for World Vision, and encouraged anyone who felt inspired and able to consider sponsoring a child–and personally met with anyone who did so at the concert that night. Her set included “If Anything’s Left,” “you’re like,” “Give Me One More Night,” “Bulletproof,” and “For You,” and brief covers of “Umbrella,” “Crazy in Love,” and “The Middle.” Her latest release, “homesick,” had the room clapping along.

Despite a small delay due to some technical difficulties, Shawn Desman raised the energy at the Light House even more. He was reading fan signs, taking phones to record videos and snap photos, and running along the barricade to get photos with excited fans–kids included. At one point he asked a fan who was cosplaying as him to come on stage and said he is giving her free Shawn Desman shows for life, plus VIP. His set had hits like “Let’s Go” and “Shook,” 2010s favourites including “Electric,” “Night Like This,” and “Shiver,” and more recent releases like “Love Me With the Lights On” and “Never Fall in Love Again.” Jamie Fine came back on stage for “Body,” which is somehow only Desman’s first Top 5 hit EVER. With radio hits, backup dancers, multiple outfit changes, and a shirtless encore, Shawn Desman is in his comeback era and is still proving that nobody does it like him.
