BONEYARD is back in full force with the wild ride of “Hanging Tree,” the crushing new single from their upcoming album, Black Static!
Canadian female-fronted hard rock and melodic metal band BONEYARD is back in full force with their brand-new single and music video “Hanging Tree,” now available on all streaming platforms. This marks the third single from their upcoming sophomore album Black Static — and it’s one wild ride.
The “Hanging Tree” video delivers a tongue-in-cheek Western Metal showdown packed with gunslingers, outlaws, a sultry goth cowgirl, and a hangman’s noose. It’s equal parts grit, groove, and gallows humor- showcasing Boneyard’s ability to blend heavy hooks with cinematic flair. Fans of Raging Slab, Reverend Horton Heat, and The Four Horsemen will love it.
Formed in 2015 by vocalist/guitarist Pamtera and drummer Jefftimus, Boneyard first made waves with their debut album Oathbreaker , featuring the singles “Fates Warning,” “Oathbreaker,” and “Evil Ways.” The album was mastered in Los Angeles by Grammy-nominated, Juno-winning engineer Maor Appelbaum ( Faith No More, Annihilator ).
Over the years, Boneyard has become a standout force in the Canadian rock and metal scene, performing across Western Canada at events like Decimate Metalfest, Pembina River Nights, and Shockerfest- and sharing stages with 96 Bitter Beings, KingDoom, and Deadwolff.
The band’s strength isn’t just in their riffs — it’s in their representation. With a Métis drummer and a female bassist from the LGBTQ+ community , Boneyard embodies inclusion, power, and authenticity while proudly flying the flag for melodic metal.
So saddle up and ride out with Boneyard’s “Hanging Tree.” It’s dark, it’s heavy, it’s tongue-in-cheek — and it’s 100% badass.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Tansi!
I’m Jeff Cunningham (A.K.A. Jefftimus) and I’m a Metis drummer with Boneyard, a hard rock/ melodic metal band from Edmonton, Alberta.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
Boneyard has just released the third single called Hanging Tree, from the upcoming sophomore album Black Static.
The accompanying video delivers a tongue-in-cheek Western Metal showdown packed with gunslingers, outlaws, a sexy goth cowgirl. and a hangman’s noose!
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or
creative routine that you follow?
Each band member typically brings to the table a riff, vocal melody or even a partially finished song. From there, we’ll work on an idea collectively, fine tuning things as we go.
We will test out new songs live and solidify them in the pre-production stage of recording.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming
tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
Our PR company and the band have been working diligently at pushing the new single and video to press outlets, radio stations and social media. A cool behind the scenes video was released last month and an official lyric video will be coming soon.
We have one final show for 2025, and it’s a big one! November 14 marks the return of industrial metal icons KingDoom, and Boneyard is the opening act. It’s a sold out show at the Rec Room in South Edmonton Common.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
Seeing Italy’s WHD records release our first album Oathbreaker to a worldwide market, including Japan, still stands as our greatest accomplishment to me.
As far as a turning point, that’s easy, having Lezzy Osbourne join our family in 2023. She’s multi-talented, and brought a positive energy that helped elevate the band.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you
recommend your fans check out?
As a huge fan of female rock and metal musicians, I’ll give you two, with one being local.
Last May we played a show with Edmonton’s Embur, a fantastic doom metal band you should check out.
Another female fronted doom metal band I recently discovered is Italy’s Messa, I highly recommend them.
