To be a force in Canadian music for 40 years is no easy feat – Yet Jim Cuddy, Greg Keelor, and Bazil Donovan have managed to pump out 16 studio albums as Blue Rodeo – with a little help from friends along the way.

The three aforementioned members have been integral members since the band’s inception in 1984, plus the addition of Glenn Milchem in 1991 solidified the core unit of the band through all these years. Over time, other members have come and gone, but Blue Rodeo always carried on.

The sold-out crowd at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium were eager to help the band celebrate a career full of timeless moments, and the band certainly delivered. This was my first time seeing them, but talking with several audience members who have seen the band many time, they all affirmed that this may well be the best showing they’ve ever seen – a band shows no sign of slowing down, and in fact has even gotten better and better with age.

With a 22-song set spanning 10 albums, Blue Rodeo carefully picked songs they felt best represented their impressive career, and even brought out opener Adam Baldwin to help close their set with “Lost Together.” Here’s to more years of a certified Canadian institution – a band who has earned every accolade along the way with hard work, determination, and a passion for their music that runs just as deep as their love for their fans. .
