Loathe

Loathe opened the night to a crowd eager for Korn at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The four-piece were shrouded in red for most of their set, and delivered a diverse set, balanced somewhere between Metalcore and Nu-Metal. The Deftones influences were undeniable.

A fun band, the highlight was definitely their singer Kadeem France. He stalked and paced the stage like a madman, ready to unleash upon the unsuspecting crowd. I feel like they’re a band worth digging deeper in to.
Gojira

Truth be told, Gojira were who I wanted to see most. This was my 3rd time seeing them, and they always bring this massive, crushing energy. They had an awesome stage setup, with pyro, cryo, video walls, and exciting lighting. Many were introduced to this band at the Paris Olympics this year, solidifying their place in the metal world, and world stage.

Despite them being the band before the headliner, they definitely brought headliner energy. Kicking ass through 11 songs, highlights for me were Stranded, Mea Culpa, and The Cell. They just seem to get better and better, yet I’ve never been disappointed. Hoping to catch them on a headline run next!
Korn

The undisputed kings of Nu-Metal, Korn hit the stage with the most perfect opening song – “Blind”. With the intro building up, the crowd was already whipping into a frenzy, the air thick with excitement. As Johnathan Davis screamed the iconic “ARE YOU READY?”, the curtain dropped, and the first Korn performance in Edmonton in 13 years kicked off with a rush of adrenaline.

The band tore through a 19-song setlist – spanning their entire career, and fed us allllll the hits. Seriously, their set was perfect. “Here to Stay”, “Got The Life”, “Coming Undone”, and so much more – Davis, Head, Munky, Diaz, and Luzier proved why Korn are an everlasting staple in the music industry, with flawless execution song after song.

Adding a snippet of Metallica’s, “One” to the end of “Shoots and Ladders” was a pretty awesome surprise, as well as a tidbit of “we Will Rock You” by Queen during “Coming Undone”. Their four-song encore just helped build the tension before the band launched into the final song, “Freak On A Leash’

All in all, this was an absolutely stellar show from start to finish, that I’m incredibly happy to have been able to cover. Until the next one!
