On September 18th, American singer and actress Noah Cyrus brought a deeply personal performance to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver.
Fresh off the release of her highly anticipated second album, I WANT MY LOVED ONES TO GO WITH ME, Cyrus premiered a moody, dynamic listening experience, balancing intimate, whispered vocals with powerful statements of independence. The album is rooted in Americana, indie folk, and country music, with guest appearances from Fleet Foxes, Ella Langley, Blake Shelton, and Bill Callahan. Her talented songwriting abilities were on full display, and it is nice to see Cyrus really growing into her own sound.
Starting the night off, Cyrus appeared out of a thick cloud of smoke carrying a lantern before launching into the first track on I WANT MY LOVED ONES TO GO WITH ME, “I Saw The Mountains”. The stage encompassed the theme of her album with a forest backdrop, foliage and trees.
The songwriter was joined by a five-piece band, beautifully bringing the sounds of her newest album to fruition. Acoustic guitar, keys, and violin encompassed the Americana, country sounds and complemented the warm tones of Cyrus’ vocals.
Despite the half-empty venue—likely a result of the Jonas Brothers’ sold-out show next door at Rogers Arena—passionate fans were treated to an intimate connection to the singer. Noah Cyrus has seemed to find her own sound, which feels genuine and authentic. Fans are eager to see what comes next from the Nashville-hailing singer.
