I HATE COMPUTERS: Die For You – Brooding synths, pulsing rhythms, and stark lyricism.
Toronto-based indie/electronic trio I HATE COMPUTERS release their debut album Die For You, a collection of immersive songs confronting disconnection, digital disillusionment, and the messy beauty of being human in a world run by machines. Described by the band (Aaron Christie, Jeff Boulton, Steve Davis) as “anthems for the digitally disillusioned,” the album fuses brooding synths, layered guitars, pulsing rhythms, and stark lyricism—a soundtrack for those questioning what’s real in a filtered world.
“We approached this project differently than anything we’ve done before. Every stage was intentionally collaborative,” explains Steve. “The result feels bigger than any one of us.”
The album opens with “You and I”, a confessional, atmospheric track exploring identity and misunderstood connection, accompanied by a striking video of a solitary astronaut navigating a surreal landscape. “High Walls”, the second single, is a politically charged anthem critiquing greed and division, building to a climactic surge of distorted chaos.
At the center is the title track, “Die For You”, a sonic exploration of devotion pushed to its limits. Anchored by driving percussion, jangling guitars, and aching piano, the song unfolds as a final letter—“I will not die for you” becomes both mantra and rebellion cry. It captures the tension of heartbreak, the power of self-preservation, and the liberation of walking away from another’s chaos.
Across its tracks, Die For You balances melancholy with anthemic energy, cinematic textures with human vulnerability. Aaron explains, “It’s about how our emotions, flaws, and vulnerabilities collide with the digital structures we live inside every day.” The album presents a fully realized artistic vision where reflection and intensity coexist, inviting listeners into a world where human emotion and technology intersect.
