Kicking off the second night of Vance Joy’s tour was Newfoundland duo Fortunate Ones.
Fresh off a trip to Japan, Fortunate Ones jumped straight into the tour and despite the jet lag, they captivated the crowd with their stunning harmonies and heartfelt songwriting. At one point, Andrew asked fans to send them videos so he could show his dad that playing a gig in a hockey rink is the closest he’ll ever get to the NHL.

Vance Joy’s set began in a unique way: a recording of him came over the sound system, explaining that he’s been working on new music and wanted to share a fresh track with the audience. When the song ended, he walked out with just an acoustic guitar and a microphone, starting the show in its simplest form. Two of his bandmates soon joined him, still with only one mic and guitar, before the full band eventually took over, turning the arena into a singalong. Midway through, he slipped away to a second stage at the back of the stadium for an intimate acoustic set. And, of course, he closed the night with Riptide, leaving the whole place singing every word.
