Julia Sound & Kinnie Starr share new single, “fk leaders who don’t lead”
A pair of Canada’s top artistic talents – Julia Sound and Kinnie Starr– have announced the release of their lyric video “fk leaders who don’t lead” via Boomsmack Records.
Julia Sound (aka Lin Gardiner) has a decorated history in the music business that has spanned years (and countries). ‘fk leaders who don’t lead’ is a track from her upcoming fourth album ‘Midlife’ scheduled for release in the Fall.
Gardiner says:
“I was feeling such a sense of frustration and anger at the state of the world – the rise of authoritarianism south of our border, the war in Ukraine, and the horrific genocide in Gaza.. I took a stab at the lead vocal but all I could come up with was ‘fk <insert name of leaders> here.’… It was cathartic, but not very listenable! Kinnie to the rescue. She has such a talent for brilliant lyrics, and leans harder into her rap delivery on this track – I’m so stoked she was up for this collaboration, her second on the album, and can’t wait to release it on all the streams soon.”
Kinnie adds
“Lin’s prompt for the co-write was “fk em all”. Not hard to write about considering world leadership. (There’s also amazing examples of proactive leadership! They are not referenced in this song!)
It’s a tragedy upon tragedy that in so many corners of the world as well as interpersonally, gen$:/;e thrives. People spend more time burning each other than planting seeds that will nourish each other. It’s a fkd up equation because we r all connected.”
The pair worked with Krisi at LyricVideosDotCom in Toronto for the graffiti-style lyric video.
