“Lonesome Cowboy” is a high-energy, stomp-along, hard-rockin’ exorcism of heartbreak, driven by an irresistible beat, a swaggering electric guitar riff, pulverizing power chords, and a garage-rawk edge for which the four-piece band has become known. With its white-hot guitar solo and passionate vocals, the song sounds like one of the best rock bangers that The Black Keys never released.
“‘Lonesome Cowboy’ is inspired and influenced by a true story,” says Boneheads lead singer Jake Gerovac. “It tells the tale of a drifter pushing through the pain caused by a past lover.”
First off, care to introduce yourselves to our readers?
We are The Boneheads based out of Mississauga, Ontario, and we are the Cadillac of bands.
“Lonesome Cowboy” is an absolute stomper — what’s the story behind the song, and how did it come together in the studio?
“Lonesome Cowboy” started with a riff and breakup. Speaking of a breakup, the band almost broke up when Ryan and Andrew argued over recording their vocal parts. They hugged it out over some pizza afterwards.
Jake, you mentioned it’s based on a true story — is this a personal heartbreak anthem, or inspired by someone else’s lonesome cowboy days?
It’s based on a true story about a friend who went through a really bad breakup and refused to take accountability. We hid the personal details by writing the story as a western.
For fans who love “Lonesome Cowboy,” which of your earlier tracks should they check out next?
They have to check out our song “Ride” next. It is also a stomper, and the slide guitar riff was built to shake the devil loose.
You’ve shared the stage with heavy hitters like The Glorious Sons and JJ Wilde — what’s been the most memorable moment opening for big acts?
Aside from playing under a solar eclipse with a view of Niagara Falls?
If you had to describe The Boneheads’ live show in three words, what would they be?
Bombastic Bonafide Bangers
What’s next for The Boneheads after this single and show — more recordings, a tour, world domination?
This summer, we are cracking open a six-pack of live shows throughout Ontario and the US. Next summer…world domination.
