Since the amazing team behind the Churchill Park Music Festival released the festival dates, rumours have been flying. The Killers quickly became one of the highly anticipated bands. Well, the rumours were correct and The Killers will be rocking the stage on the last night of the festival on Tuesday, July 29th, in St. John’s, NL. Special guests for the night included The Beaches and Matt Mays.
Described as one of the most influential rock bands of the 21st century, The Killers are a four-piece band hailing from Las Vegas. Since forming in 2002, the band has been recognized numerous times for their artistic achievement, including multiple nominations at the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and countless others. Known for their singles such as ‘Mr. Brightside,’ ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘When You Were Young’, and ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’, they are sure to leave an impression that will last a lifetime.
The Beaches have already solidified a following here in Newfoundland after playing multiple festivals here in the past. The 4x Juno Award-winning Toronto based band have found success with their album Blame My Ex. The album’s single ‘Blame Brett’, a catchy tune that has racked up millions of streams on various social media platforms, is sure to be one you’ll be singing for days.
Matt Mays is also no stranger to Newfoundland, performing here multiple times over the years as a part of Matt Mays & El Torpedo and solo. With an impressive collection of tracks, such as ‘City of Lakes’ (one of his first singles) to ‘Cocaine Cowgirl’, ‘Tall Trees’ and ‘Where Am I Going?’ (from his days with El Torpedo) to ‘Indio’, ‘Faint of Heart’, and ‘ Let There Be Love’, fans are sure to hear some of their favorites.
