Modest Mouse

July 3, 2025, saw the return of Modest Mouse to Edmonton since their last show here a few years ago at Union Hall. There was a significant crowd; I don’t think it was quite sold out, but I don’t have actual attendance numbers. Unfortunately, due to work, I missed the opening act and was only able to catch Modest Mouse.
The one thing that’s cool about these guys is that they don’t really have a concrete set list that they adhere to every night. They just kinda do their thing and play what they feel like playing. The last time I saw them, they left out their hit song “float on” – so it’s nice to see the track making an appearance this time around, and early in the set. For me, there’s something neat about being able to photograph a band while they play their biggest and most familiar tracks.
They’re not a band that moves around a whole lot, but they are a super cohesive unit that always delivers a fantastic performance. Their 90-minute set featured 18 songs, 4 of which were an encore.
