Calgary’s LOVER Announces Performance at Armstrong Metal Fest 2025

Limited Edition Cassette For EP “Fatal Attraction” Out June 2025

High intensity, no filler rockers, Calgary’s LOVER announces they will be performing at this year’s Armstrong Metal Fest (July 11/12), one of Canada’s loudest mountain moshpits nestled in the beautiful backdrop of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley.

The band is playing in support of their latest EP, Fatal Attraction, which the thrashback metallers will be releasing on limited edition cassette on June 20th, 2025. Fatal Attraction is fast, it’s real, and it’s meant to kick you in the face! Even though the EP is only two tracks, this is a sampler of more to come. The opening title track is an energetic rush of sound that captures the ups and downs of being overwhelmed by desire. The lyrics feed this feeling by talking about lust and substance abuse. Track 2. “Bad Love” lyrically is a tough and mean reality check. It’s based on a true story of love gone wrong. It has aggressive riffs, mean solos, and is meant to capture the strain of a mind in love and turmoil.

“For real though, we used our real-life experiences of love, hardship, and lust to tell a story, and it just happens to be set to the tune of high-energy rock n roll,” adds the band.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Aidan: We are Lover, from Calgary, AB, Canada, your time capsule back to when rock n roll ruled supreme, LOVER. A high intensity, no filler Rock Band attacking with soaring vocal harmonies, electrifying solos, and a thunderous, unrelenting rhythm section.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Aidan: Our new demo “Fatal Attraction” is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we have in store. These two songs are some of the first that came together in the jam room with us as a whole band, and we think that they both showcase what we are all about.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

Hunter: Typically, Aidan writes the best riff you’ve ever heard, and then we get in the jamspace and figure out a song structure. Once that is established, I will take the song home to write lyrics and melody. We work really well together, everyone in the band contributes, and it ends up being a full group effort.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

Hunter: Looking ahead for Lover, we are playing Armstrong Metal fest 2025 this summer, and we also have a few more local dates around Alberta that we are playing. As for a little farther into the future, we are in talks with some friends out east around the Toronto/Montreal area to get a little tour going to help spread the word about us.

We have also started to record our first full-length album, which we can’t wait to share.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

Aidan: I think that each of us has been fortunate in the sense that with our previous projects, we have had some pretty sweet experiences playing live and recording. In particular, Jacob and I got to open for Castor Hetfield’s band Bastardane with our other project Flashback at a sold-out Starlite room in Edmonton, which was a mind-blowing show. I know Hunter had the chance to go and co-headline a tour in Japan with Midnight Malice, and Chris has also done his fair share of touring. That being said, we all have had some awesome moments, which is why when we bring it all together into this band, we know that there will be many more moments like that to come.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

Aidan: I think everyone needs to go check out our boys, Villain and Tumble from Toronto, who both just recently put out killer records. I would also say a shoutout to our boys in Conductor from Sydney, Nova Scotia.
