On Friday the 13th of June through Saturday the 14th, the Millet Agriplex Arena becomes ground zero for chaos as Decimate Metalfest unleashes a storm of guttural screams, blistering riffs, and thunderous drums. This isn’t just a show—it’s a ritual. We’ve teamed up to do a series of five interviews, starting with Into Eternity.
Blending progressive metal, death growls, power-metal vocals, and blistering riffs, Into Eternity has spent over two decades redefining heavy music. Formed in 1996, the Regina-based band rose from DIY roots to international acclaim with albums like Dead or Dreaming and The Scattering of Ashes, sharing stages with Dream Theater and appearing on Gigantour 2006.
Despite lineup changes and personal losses, founding guitarist Tim Roth has kept the band’s flame alive.
First off, what does it mean to you to be part of Decimate Metalfest 2025?
Thanks for the interview! Into Eternity always loves coming back to Alberta. Normally, we play in different cities, so this will be fun playing in the smaller centre of Millet, Alberta. We have played this Festival before, but we are always happy to be asked back to this great community-based show.
The Metal community needs to stick together, and this Festival is a great example of that.
Thanks to Sloan for all of her hard work organizing everything!
How does your set for Decimate differ from your usual shows? Do you bring something
extra to the table for a crowd of die-hard metalheads?
Every show is unique that we play, and we’ll be feeding off the energy at this Year’s Decimate MetalFest! Playing in a club is a completely different vibe compared to the energy of a Metal Festival. Both are cool, but we are looking forward to getting back to Alberta and seeing all of our friends again. It’s going to be a good time!
Decimate is known for uniting metal genres — from deathcore to melodic doom.
How would you describe your sound to someone new to your band, and where do you
fit into the metal landscape?
Back in 1996, Into Eternity was formed, and we were described as a Hybrid Progressive Metal band. We combine clean vocals, death metal vocals, off-time signatures, acoustic parts, death metal riffing, power metal elements, fast guitar playing, and high-energy metal all wrapped into one band.
At the time we formed, this was highly unusual, but now our fans come to expect all these elements from us. A lot of bands play in that style now, so it is a lot more common.
What’s your favorite part of the festival experience as a performer?
Playing to a new audience for us is always a thrill. Not only are we playing a different province, which is cool, but this is an all-ages Festival as well. Anytime that we can play an all-ages show, we jump at the opportunity. The kids always bring that high energy that we as a band feed off of. It’s going to be awesome!
Any wild stories, pre-show rituals, or gear tips you’d share with fans or up-and-coming
artists playing fests like this?
I know I’ll be pounding some water and warming up on my guitar before we play. Some of the other guys might be enjoying an adult beverage or two? Haha, it’s important to warm up for us, so that we’re ready to perform these songs to our best ability. This music is not easy to pull off, so we’re big believers in rehearsing a ton before any shows. Drinking a lot of water is key, so nobody cramps up.
You need to stay hydrated to perform.
With so many killer bands on the lineup, who are you most excited to see or share the
stage with at Decimate Metalfest 2025?
You are right! There are going to be so many great bands that we are going to check out. I’m pumped to see Untimely Demise, Famous Strangers, Quietus, Skepsis, Syryn, and The Bunny The Bear!
