With a voice “as powerful as a freight train” and a soul that carries the weight of his lived experiences, Indigenous singer-songwriter Joe H Henry unveils his latest EP, Real Things—a raw and deeply personal exploration of life’s honest moments. Fresh off nominations for ECMA Blues Recording of the Year, Americana Recording of the Year (NSMAs), and Indigenous Artist of the Year, Henry is set to bring his signature blend of gritty folk, blues, and Americana to audiences across Eastern Canada on his Spring 2025 tour. You can see a list of tour dates in this article.

Five

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jessica Sevier is entering a bold new era with her edgy single “Motel,” releasing March 28 via The Orchard. Co-written with Andrew Allen and Ron Lopata (Jully Black, Matt Dusk), the track blends country, roots, and Americana with rock grit and an R&B edge, showcasing sultry vocals and unflinching lyrics about confronting insecurity and breaking free from toxic love. You can hear the latest single in this interview article.

Four

Toronto, Canada’s Derev is proud to release their first full-length, Troubled Mind, now available as of March 26th on digital platforms. The follow-up to their 2021 debut EP Leap of Faith, Troubled Mind takes a deep dive into the intricacies of the human psyche, addressing a spectrum of mental health issues with each track, ranging from temporary mental instability to more severe conditions such as schizophrenia, cognitive immobility (a fixation on the past), and depression stemming from loss. You can hear the full album on all streaming sites or check it out via this interview.

Three

Club Cadetta continues to build momentum with the recent release of their catchy single “Fences,” their first issue of 2025 on the heels of 2024’s “Terminal 3” and “It Starts Again.” The Brampton and Mississauga, Ontario four-piece have only been writing since March 2022 and are already making their mark on the music world. The group are a tight, vibey, coordinated force with a sound that has clarity and is inviting to the ears. They are rapidly growing in popularity and notoriety even sharing the stage with the likes of Our Lady Peace. Hear “Fences” now via this interview.

Two

Halifax rock/Americana outfit Newbridge returns with Past Lives, a richly woven album rooted in storytelling and East Coast tradition. Its focus track, “Iroquois,” captures the heart of the record—a folk-infused reflection on longing, love, and the spaces between. Inspired by a summer spent in Iroquois, Ontario, and shaped by the Maritimes’ seafaring spirit, the song speaks to the journey of those who leave home in search of something more. With warm Nashville production and harmonies from Shannon McNally, “Iroquois” blends Canadiana and Americana with the emotional weight of lived experience. Hear music via this article.

One

Emerging Toronto-based singer-songwriter ZOË FERRIS released her debut EP Pushing  Daisies on April 4th on all major platforms. “Pushing Daisies” just might be the catchiest pop song of the present day that isn’t written and performed by someone named Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, or Carly Rae Jepsen. Like those pure-pop singer-songwriters, Zoë Ferris transforms heartbreak into a sweet sonic confection. On “Pushing Daisies,” buoyed up by sparkling electric guitars and gorgeous, melodic three-part vocal harmonies, she balances the inevitable, impending, long-delayed end of a romantic relationship against the attempt to wring as much love and joy as possible out of it before that happens. Now you have checked down my top recommendation of the week from our website. Listen now via this interview.
