Rising Singer-Songwriter Jessica Sevier To Release New Single “Motel”
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jessica Sevier is entering a bold new era with her edgy single “Motel,” releasing March 28 via The Orchard. Co-written with Andrew Allen and Ron Lopata (Jully Black, Matt Dusk), the track blends country, roots, and Americana with rock grit and an R&B edge, showcasing sultry vocals and unflinching lyrics about confronting insecurity and breaking free from toxic love.
A departure from her earlier country-pop sound, “Motel” marks the first taste of Jessica’s upcoming EP. Since debuting with “Ghost of Tom” at 18, she’s racked up over 1 million streams and shared stages with Jason McCoy, James Barker Band, and more.
First off, what have you been up to since we last talked?
So much has been happening behind the scenes over the past two years! I took this time to figure out the direction of my new project and was able to curate a collection of songs that resonated with me deeply. I feel so lucky that I was able to go through this creative process and collaborate with some insanely talented writers and producers such as Ron Lopata and Andrew Allen who I wrote with on my new single “Motel”.
“Motel” marks a departure from your previous work in the country pop genre. What inspired this shift in sound and how does it reflect your evolution as an artist?
The shift in my sound was inspired by just feeling a little bit lost. I was trying to fit the country-pop mold but just felt that I wasn’t being authentic to myself anymore. I love all the music that I have created but in order to mature and let listeners know more about me I needed to show them who I really am. I grew up listening to storytellers like Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp and at this point in my life ,I have some important stories to tell. I felt the natural landing place for these new stories left that pop realm and I am feeling really secure in this new sound.
How was it collaborating with Andrew Allen and Ron Lopata on this track? What did they bring to the process that helped bring the song to life?
Working with Ron and Andrew on this track was super inspiring. They are both very talented and brought valuable experience into our sessions. I started writing “Motel” by myself when I needed to release some emotional heaviness. I didn’t think much of it but pitched it on our session anyways. Ron and Andrew liked it enough that we leaped right into writing the rest. They both were able to help shape my emotions into powerful words and portray the message that needed to be said.
This track is the first taste of your upcoming EP. What can we expect from the rest of the EP in terms of both sound and themes?
The rest of this new EP stays in the same sonic realm as “Motel”, a little bit edgy with touches of Americana and country. I wanted to explore genre boundaries so there are some songs that lean more into rock/Americana and some that will lean a little softer, but overall they are connected by the same storytelling songwriting. I wrote each song about real-life issues I was dealing with at the time and hope that they can inspire anyone who is dealing with the same issues of navigating adult life, mental health, and relationships.
You’ve had quite a journey from releasing your debut single at 18 to performing with artists like Jason McCoy and James Barker Band. How do you feel your experiences on stage have shaped your artistry and the music you create today?
I have had so many incredible experiences throughout my musical journey and there have been many ups and downs. Being able to share the stage with such established artists always pushes me to be better, it makes me give 110% because there is a certain standard they set that needs to be met. Being able to learn from artists like this has been incredible and they always inspire me to give every project and stage my heart and soul.
What’s next for you after the release of “Motel”? Any upcoming projects, collaborations, or live performances you’re excited about?
There is going to be so much happening over the next year! The rest of the EP will be coming out and I will be continuing to write for the next one! I will also be playing around Canada this summer and fall; some dates are July 4th, 2025 in Big River, Saskatchewan, July 26th in Bradford, ON, and August 29th, 2025 in Mattawa, Ontario. I will be playing all the new music at my shows this year so if you want a sneak peek come on out! There will be more shows announced soon.
