Whitechapel, Alluvial, 200 Stab Wounds & Brand Of Sacrifice

Whitechapel unleashed hell upon Edmonton’s Union Hall with the “Hymns In Dissonance” tour with fellow brothers in brutality – Brand Of Sacrifice, 200 Stab Wounds, and Alluvial.
The weather in Edmonton is finally clearing up, and this past Saturday was the perfect spring day for a sold-out metal show at Union Hall.
Alluvial, the quasi-supergroup featuring virtuoso axeman Wes Hauch, (Black Crown Initiate, The Faceless) and veteran growler Kevin Muller (Pyrexia, Suffocation) kicked off the night with an absolutely ferocious 30-minute set. I’m not super familiar with the band, but they were heavy as fuck, and were a fantastic start to the night.

Hot on their heels was 200 Stab Wounds, a Cleveland-based 4 piece that continued the aural assault with a setlist based heavily on their two full-length releases, “Slave To The Scalpel” and “Manual Manic Procedures”.

The next band I was super hyped to see, Brand OF Sacrifice. Hailing from Toronto, ON – Vocalist Kyle Anderson is an absolute beast, an imposing figure with a voice to match. Arguably my favourite set of the night, they were phenomenal to watch, and it was a pleasant surprise to see Andrew Kim of Inferi on bass.

The absolute peak was the undisputed GOATs of the Deathcore genre – Whitechapel. A band that has hugely influenced the entire genre, consistently innovating and demonstrating why they’ve held the throne since their first full-length, released in 2007. Vocalist Phil Bozeman is a beast, and he’s got a stage presence to match. Alex Wade, Ben Savage, and Zach Householder bring a triple guitar barrage that redefines the word heavy, and this band is so incredibly tight.
This was my first time photographing them in a headlining slot, and it was awesome!
