JUNO Awards 2025 – Recap and winners

Vancouver glistened as the 2025 JUNO Awards were celebrated over two days of awards and music!

Leading the way with her four trophies was international sensation Tate McRae, who took home Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Pop Album of the Year.  Also celebrating multiple wins was Palestinian-Canadian singer-songwriter, Nemahsis, whose powerful debut album, Verbathim, earned her Alternative Album of the Year, and Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

Many firsts were also celebrated among the winners.  Haisla rappers, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, became the first indigenous group to win Rap Album of the Year for their album, RED FUTURE, while Inuk singer-songwriter, Elisapie, took home Adult Alternative Album of the Year for Inuktitut.  Meanwhile, winners in brand new categories included AP Dhillon, who won the inaugural South Asian Music Recording of the Year for “The Brownprint”, while Lowell was presented with the first-ever JUNO for Songwriter of the Year (Non-Performer) for her contributions to the Beaches’ “Takes One to Know One” and smash hits “TEXAS HOLD ’EM” and “BODYGUARD” from Beyoncé’s Grammy Award-winning album, Cowboy Carter.

In addition to the winners, several artists and important music industry leaders were also honoured.  The MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award went to Jeanie Hunter from Nepean High School in Ottawa, while the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award, which recognizes individuals whose work has significantly impacted the growth and development of the Canadian music industry, went to concert promoter and production manager, Riley O’Connor, and Sarah Harmer was presented with the Humanitarian Award for her work in promoting environmental causes.  Celebrated producer, Boi-1da, was also honoured with the JUNO International Achievement Award for his work with not only Canadian superstar, Drake, but also such international legends, such as Rihanna, Eminem, and Jay-Z; while Sum 41 ended their illustrious career by becoming the first ever punk rockers to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The JUNO Awards now look ahead to 2026, where the party heads to Hamilton for another year of celebrating the best of Canadian music!
