TUMBLEWEED DEALER Dive into Their Psychedelic Swamp with “Dark Green” (Interview)

TUMBLEWEED DEALER Invite You Into Their Lush Psychedelic Swamp With Full Stream Of “Dark Green”

Montreal’s Tumbleweed Dealer invites you into their lush, sonic landscape with a full stream of Dark Green! Their fourth album is a genre-defying journey, blending nostalgia with fresh, progressive sounds. From the eerie opener “A Distant Figure In The Fog” to the heavy closer “A Soul Made Of Sludge,” every track offers new layers to explore.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are Tumbleweed Dealer, a 3-piece (with several guest musicians!) studio project from Montreal Canada.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Dark Green, our fourth album, looks to expand the limits of our sound. We embraced my love of 70’s progressive rock while trying to recontextualize its signature sounds of mellotron and Hammond organs in a more modern, catchy, funk-infused setting

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

For this latest album, we simply wrote and rewrote everything for 8 years. We literally tried every possible combination to see what worked best. At times it felt more like we were assembling a preexisting puzzle rather than actually creating the art ourselves. So much of it was written through sheer dumb luck where we made a mistake and realized it sounded better that way so we tried everything we could to make those types of situations happen on purpose. We also had a “we gotta try it before we say it won’t work” approach to everyone’s ideas, no matter how weird they were. A lot of it didn’t work, which thankfully you will never hear, but all that experimentation left us with what we think is a pretty uniquely conceived record.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

We have honestly released everything we have, from videos to previews, and we will not be playing live. It’s really just “here is the album, hope you guys like it, if you do tell a friend’ kind of thing now.

If there’s any specific song/riff anyone would like to see a playthrough of tablatures for don’t hesitate to ask!

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

The release of this new album. I really have a sense of “this is it, this is the best I can do” with this record. We took 8 years to fine-tune it, we included ideas and riffs from when I was 17 up until now, every musical project I have been in has led up to this. This is the closing chapter in my musical development.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

We are all absolutely in awe of the band Mildlife, 2024 AOTY, if you haven’t checked them out please do!
